Chapter 2

I carefully used my flashlight to drive away the snake on my ankle, then got up to survey the surroundings.

Over the years, the ancient tomb had tilted and sunk, and this burial chamber had completely collapsed.

The switch to open it was just outside the door.

The good news was that after the collapse, there was a narrow gap between the stone door and the wall.

Perhaps I could reach out and touch the switch.

The bad news was that the burial chamber was now about 1.5 feet lower than the outside.

The switch was too high for me to reach.

I could only drag my injured leg and pile up many stones together.

With great difficulty, I climbed up and stretched my arm through that gap to reach for the switch.

The gap was too narrow, and my arm was scraped bloody.

The wound on my leg was also continuously bleeding, my pants almost soaked through.

I gritted my teeth, my vision going dark, swaying unsteadily.

At this moment, Granger's voice, full of concern, came through the walkie-talkie.

"Doctor, could this injure her tendons or bones? She's a pianist, her hands are very important."

Followed by the doctor's slightly exasperated voice.

"It's just a scratch, it won't affect anything."

I lowered my gaze to the small pool of blood that had gathered below, and couldn't help but laugh bitterly.

If Granger could see me now, how would he react? Fearful that he would only furrow his brow impatiently, criticizing me for being overly dramatic and making a big deal out of nothing?

Melody's coquettish voice came through the intercom again.

"Granger, I didn't know you cared about me so much!"

"Actually, I've been thinking about you all the time while I was abroad. I came back to the country specifically for you. But I never expected that you already have a fiancée..."

Her voice suddenly became very dejected.

I couldn't see Granger's expression, I only knew that he remained silent.

At this moment, I just wanted to laugh sarcastically.

Granger and I met in college, and I was the one who secretly liked him first.

Melody was his childhood sweetheart, and they had been betrothed since they were little.

But later, when Granger's family went bankrupt, Melody dumped him without hesitation.

He was depressed for a long time and even attempted suicide.

It took me two whole years to help him overcome his heartbreak.

I also helped him catch up on his missed coursework, helped him join the archaeology team, and accompanied him as he earned money to pay off debts.

Granger's gaze towards me gradually softened.

Until his family's fortunes were restored, he took the initiative to ask me to be his girlfriend.

I had waited for this day for nearly ten years.

We did have our sweet moments together. Granger, known for his usual aloofness, would childishly pressure me to post our photos together on social media, eager to announce our relationship to the world.

He was once the epitome of the perfect boyfriend in my friends' eyes, personally preparing my meals three times a day and driving me everywhere.

Our engagement was even his idea, persistently pursuing me to propose.

But then, Melody returned.

At first, I didn't realize. I just suddenly noticed that Granger started wearing cologne and listening to piano music.

I didn't think much of it, until one day at a Harrington family dinner, Melody made an appearance to perform on the piano.

The entire Harrington family watched her with smiles, while Granger's eyes were filled with admiration and longing.

Suddenly, he turned to look at me.

His gaze held a barely concealed hint of disdain.

"How is it that you don't have a single talent? It's so embarrassing. How am I supposed to introduce you to my relatives?"

In the past, I was incredibly humble because of love.

I even considered learning an instrument or dance for Granger's sake.

But now, I just smiled gently as I wiped away the sweat and blood from my face.

"Granger, won't you please save me?""

"If I can get out of here safely, I promise I'll break off our engagement and let you two be together."
