Chapter 28: Annihilation of the Enemy – Mission Complete
Tombstone was surrounded by waves of heat so intense that they distorted the air—
He looked like a walking, living volcano.
The veins on his neck bulged; his pale face flushed to a disturbing bluish-purple from rage.
His fingers cracked loudly as he clenched his fists, which radiated heat upwards of a thousand degrees Celsius.
Everywhere he stepped, the asphalt beneath him melted into black liquid.
But Jiang Feng didn't allow him to get close.
His armor was larger than Iron Man's—
Stronger in defense, with more stored ammunition, and enough firepower to fight three hundred more rounds.
There was no need to engage in close combat with a guy like this, who resembled an Extremis soldier.
No reason to risk failure by getting dragged into a brawl.
Jiang Feng clearly remembered the movie scenes—
Where Extremis soldiers ripped Iron Man's armor apart.
Their threat level was far beyond that of someone like Taskmaster.
"Wanna get close? That's not your decision to make."
As he spoke—
Flames erupted from the thrusters on Jiang Feng's legs, blasting him backward like an arrow loosed from a bowstring.
In the blink of an eye, he widened the distance between them by several dozen meters.
Next—
His palm-mounted repulsors lit up with a blinding white glow.
Energy swirled like a vortex, surging with the full power of his armor's strongest attack.
Boom!
Jiang Feng thrust both arms forward—
Two beams, as thick as oil drums, exploded out with a deafening roar.
Their piercing power was devastating, capable of tearing through a tank in an instant.
The beams were hotter than Tombstone's powers—
Searing twin trails into the air as they struck him dead-on.
The impact hurled Tombstone off his feet—
The searing heat melted flesh and muscle, leaving a smoldering hole in his chest.
His bones hissed audibly.
And yet—
Tombstone, with a body of iron and steel, didn't collapse right away.
It was a testament to his sheer physical toughness.
"Motherf—! I'm gonna rip your head off and shove it up your ass!"
He howled in pain, dragging his shattered body forward.
Blood mixed with molten flesh dripped continuously, forming scorched craters wherever it landed.
Watching Tombstone tank a repulsor blast and not die—
Jiang Feng couldn't help but feel a flicker of envy.
He hoped that once he used the Super Soldier Serum, he too would possess such terrifying vitality.
"Master, this attack consumed 2% of your energy. Current energy reserves: 70%,"
Linglong's crisp voice sounded in his helmet.
"That's more than enough to send you to hell."
He had ample energy left to fight all night—
Jiang Feng's eyes glinted with a steely chill.
Tombstone, like a cornered beast, ignored his wounds and charged wildly, hoping to go down in a blaze of glory.
But it was pointless.
Compared to Jiang Feng, he moved like a wooden puppet—
While Jiang Feng darted and weaved through the air, skimming just above the ground, easily outmaneuvering him.
"%@*&...@!"
Tombstone couldn't land a single hit—
He couldn't even graze Jiang Feng's armor.
All he could do was rage uselessly.
His pain and fury awakened his African-American bloodline—
Prompting a furious stream of expletives to pour from his mouth.
But Jiang Feng's response was far more terrifying.
Each blast of the repulsor cannon was like the roar of thunder—
Blasting Tombstone's body open again and again.
Within seconds—
Tombstone's body was riddled with holes.
His once-massive frame had been reduced to a grotesque, mangled form.
Half of his head had been blown off—
Yet he still glared at Jiang Feng with his one remaining eye, filled with unwillingness and rage.
Eventually—
The relentless repulsor fire utterly obliterated Tombstone.
His body disintegrated into burning ashes, carried away by the cold night wind.
"Ding! You have successfully killed Tombstone. Mechanic and Warrior classes gained 600 experience points."
"Ding! Reincarnator Jiang Feng has killed Tombstone. Reincarnation Points +500."
"Ding! Reincarnator Jiang Feng, your side quest progress has reached 3/5."
Jiang Feng slowly turned his neck, locking eyes on the direction Bullseye and Batroc had fled.
All of Hell's Kitchen's surveillance systems—
Were like obedient hounds under Linglong's control, utterly submissive.
"Master, the two targets have reached the end of Clinton Street. They are attempting to escape New York City by boat."
Linglong had already tracked their movements, gently reminding Jiang Feng—
Her sweet voice chilling to the core.
As if she'd already written their death sentence.
Jiang Feng gave a slight nod.
"Obviously, there's no escape. Anyone who crosses me has only one outcome: death."
With that—
He lowered his arms naturally, and jets of flame blasted from his back and feet.
His entire body shot into the sky, trailing a long streak of light—
Tearing a visible wound through the night sky.
He broke the sound barrier in an instant, the resulting sonic boom deafening.
In mere breaths—
He had arrived at the southwestern tip of Manhattan.
Across the dark ocean—
A small yacht could be seen racing desperately, its propellers churning up white waves.
Somehow, Bullseye and Batroc had managed to find the boat.
The two crouched by the gunwale, hair whipped into a tangled mess by the sea breeze,
Speeding toward mainland New York State.
The United States didn't just have New York City—
It also had New York State.
New York City was in the eastern part of the state—
Mainly composed of Staten Island, Manhattan Island, and part of Long Island.
Its western side bordered the mainland.
Bullseye and Batroc naïvely believed—
That as long as they fled New York City, they could escape the nightmare known as Jiang Feng.
"Faster! Go faster!"
Bullseye screamed at the top of his lungs.
They pushed the boat to its limit, flying across the water in darkness, creating a trail of splashing foam.
But at that moment—
Whoosh!
A sonic boom from the sky made their hearts jump—
The two looked up in horror.
A shadowy figure had already appeared above them.
"We're finished!"
Both turned pale, panicking and launching a desperate counterattack.
Bullseye, hands trembling, flung several razor-sharp enhanced playing cards—
Each one glinting with cold light, far sharper and tougher than standard ones.
Batroc pulled out a heavily modified pistol and fired wildly into the air.
Bullets rained upward—
Clang! Clang! Clang!
But the attacks bounced harmlessly off Jiang Feng's armor.
Like ants trying to shake a tree, they didn't leave so much as a scratch.
Instead of threatening, the spectacle looked like a joke—
A pathetic farce.
"Go to hell and say hi to Mephisto. Don't worry—Kingpin will be joining you soon."
Jiang Feng, hovering high above, gently raised his arm.
The weapon bay opened slowly—
A missile trailed fire as it screamed downward.
Boom!
The explosion rocked the sea like thunder—
Flames lit up the ocean, briefly turning night into day.
The yacht was torn to splinters—
Shards of wood and flame scattered, Bullseye and Batroc engulfed by the blast.
They were reduced to charred wreckage floating lifelessly on the waves.
The sea breeze carried with it the thick stench of blood.
As Jiang Feng stared down at the carnage—
Two system notifications rang in his ears.
Both experience and Reincarnation Points were credited at once.
Kingpin's carefully orchestrated ambush—
Ended in total failure with the deaths of the last two underlings.
"Ding! Reincarnator Jiang Feng, your mission progress has reached 5/5. Side Quest [Path of the Hunt] successfully completed. Please choose one of the following three enhancement paths:"
"Enhancement 1: Super Soldier Serum."
"Enhancement 2: Heart-Shaped Herb."
"Enhancement 3: HYDRA Human Augmentation."
Suspended in the night sky, three options flashed before Jiang Feng's eyes.
After a brief moment of hesitation—
He made his choice.
