Early the next morning, Lin Yuan sat on the bus. Sunlight came through the window beside him, warming his face. But the nice weather didn't cheer him up. He looked down at the ordinary virtual controller in his hand, and then thought about the exaggerated and cool equipment of those gaming masters. He couldn't help but sigh inwardly, "How on earth can an ordinary college student like me survive in this crazy gaming world..."
After getting off the bus, Lin Yuan walked towards the teaching building of the university. As soon as he entered the campus, he was stunned by the scene in front of him.
Among the bustling students on campus, many were carrying various gaming controllers. Some had a long sword on their backs, the blade of which shimmered with a flowing blue light, looking like an accessory from a well-known martial arts game. Some held a strangely shaped umbrella. There seemed to be some kind of strengthening runes painted on the umbrella surface. With a flick, the handle of the umbrella could transform into a spear. There were students donning watch-style devices. The dials lit up with all kinds of skill icons. Even more incredibly, on the lawn, he witnessed someone summoning virtual monsters and directing them via card battles.
With the support of virtual projection reality technology, these monsters looked like real creatures existing in this world, extremely powerful and fierce.
"Goodness, these pieces of equipment must cost a lot of money, right?" Lin Yuan couldn't help exclaiming as he walked and observed. Although he had been in this world for a while, such a scene still amazed him. The highly developed virtual technology had almost completely blurred the line between games and reality.
He snapped out of his thoughts and hurried through the crowd to the teaching building.
As soon as he entered the classroom, the counselor was already standing on the podium, looking at the students with a serious expression. Lin Yuan found his seat and sat down. Just as he was about to take out his virtual notebook, the counselor's voice came over.
"Attention, students! There are still two months left until the end of the second semester of this academic year, and the final assessment of this semester will be in the form of a gaming competition."
At the mention of the words "gaming competition", the whole class immediately burst into excitement. Some people were whispering excitedly, while others began to guess what type of game it would be. With a bewildered look, Lin Yuan scratched his head. "Unbelievable! They hold gaming competitions for finals? This world has truly lost its mind."
The counselor ignored the students' whispers and directly activated the virtual projection screen at the front of the classroom. On the screen was projected a game scene filled with the glint of swords and the flash of blades. Among the green mountains and clear waters, the scene of swordsmen dueling was captivating.
"This is the assessment game for this semester, 'Martial Arts Duel in XYZ'. " You'll be divided into groups of five for battles in this game," the counselor said firmly. "Luckily, there are exactly enough students in your class to make five five-member groups."
"Wait a minute!" Lin Yuan's thoughts were suddenly pulled back to reality. He looked up, "What's the name of our class...?"
The class Lin Yuan was in was called the "Yunmeng Class". It sounded literary and poetic, but in a world centered around games, it looked rather "alternative". What made Lin Yuan even more helpless was that the name of their opponents was even more exaggerated. The class next door was called the "Heavenly Gods Class".
At this, Lin Yuan let out a humorless laugh. "Yunmeng taking on Heavenly Gods. Right off the bat, we can tell it'll be a grueling fight."
The counselor continued, "This final assessment not only determines your credits but also affects the school's year-end evaluation and even the reputation of the entire Yunmeng Class. So, I hope you will take it seriously, form teams as soon as possible, and develop effective strategies."
The classroom was instantly filled with a complex atmosphere. Some people were excited and ready to go. Others furrowed their brows, worried about their gaming skills. Like Lin Yuan, some stared blankly at their controllers. Lin Yuan groaned inwardly, "I'm not ready for this... But maybe I can give this battle a shot."
===================
