Chapter 16: Wavering Walls

Weeks passed, and Nyxara couldn't ignore the pull she felt toward Riven. She had promised herself she'd be the light in his life, but watching him withdraw into sorrow made her realize it was more than a promise—it was something she had to do.

One evening, she stopped by a quiet coffee shop after her shift. To her surprise, Riven was sitting alone, staring at his untouched cup. She hesitated but walked over to him. "Mind if I join you?"

He looked up, surprised but not opposed. "Sure."

She sat across from him, the silence thick between them. Finally, Nyxara spoke. "Life can be cruel. It doesn't always make sense, but there's always something worth living for, even if you can't see it right now."

Riven didn't respond, but his eyes softened just slightly. Nyxara continued, "I'm here, Riven. I want to help you find the light again."

He met her gaze, his voice barely above a whisper. "Why do you care?"

"Because I do," she said. "Even when it feels like everything's lost, there's always a reason to keep going."

A faint shift in his expression told her her words had reached him, even if just for a moment.
