Chapter 9

That evening, I received a text message from Celeste asking to meet.

After some thought, I decided to go.

When I arrived at the coffee shop, she was already waiting there.

"You must be feeling pretty smug, huh?"

There was a moment of silence.

Suddenly, Celeste laughed, though it sounded forced.

"I never thought that in the end, he would fall in love with you. Even after your divorce, he refuses to get back together with me."

"Instead, he told me he wants to win you back."

I stirred my coffee, saying nothing.

"During those years abroad, he kept sending me messages, his words always brimming with love and longing for me."

"The impression that relationship left on our hearts was just too deep. Not only can't he forget, neither can I."

"I used to think he would wait for me forever."

"I thought we could get back together as soon as his grandmother passed away. But I never imagined he would marry you."

I curled my lip sarcastically.
