Chapter 2

My chaotic thoughts were interrupted.

Xavion placed a tender kiss on Melody's forehead, his eyes full of adoration:

"If it weren't for her heartless betrayal, how would I have ever met you, my little sweetheart?"

"That seven-million-dollar necklace you've been eyeing? We'll go buy it tomorrow.

"Next time, pick something even more expensive. Your boyfriend can afford anything now."

Watching this scene, the countless needle marks on my wrist suddenly throbbed with intense pain, nearly suffocating me.

I abruptly yanked my arm from Xavion's still-tight grip,

unwilling to be a backdrop for their flaunting of affection any longer.

Just as I was about to leave, Melody "accidentally" stuck out her high heel, tripping me.

"Oh, is the 'senior' so frail?"

I fell hard, the blood test results in my hand scattering at Xavion's feet.

Seeing me fall, Xavion's brow furrowed, instinctively wanting to help me up.

But Melody grabbed his hand, shrieking:

"What are these papers?"

Xavion's attention was drawn to the test results on the ground.

He bent down to pick them up, quickly scanning them.

"Full blood transfusion records..."

Xavion's face instantly clouded over.

He threw the stack of reports in my face. "Aria, how could you use such a low-handed tactic to gain sympathy?"

"Just like four years ago, all you care about is money. You'll resort to any means necessary!"

I looked at Xavion's healthy, ruddy complexion and managed a pale smile, picking up only the medical report.

"Doesn't you, our great actor, know me best? How about lending me some more money?"

Melody put on a show of being emotional, clinging to Xavion's arm and whimpering, but her eyes, when they met mine, were full of contempt and triumph.

"Darling, what if it's true?"

"Besides, she was the one who abandoned you back then, which led you to meet someone willing to give you a blood transfusion!"

"Let's help her, shall we?"

These words seemed to remind Xavion of my past "greedy and heartless" actions.

The anger and doubt in Xavion's eyes instantly turned into an icy chill.

"The blood of those selfless donors can't save someone so cold-blooded. She doesn't deserve it."

Xavion put his arm around Melody and turned to leave, with Melody still putting on an act of pleading.

But in the moment she looked back at me, the curve of her lips was full of mockery and malice.

I picked up the blood test report, now covered in stains from where Melody had stepped on it. Suddenly, my entire body felt as if all the blood had frozen solid.

My vision gradually blurred, the silhouettes of the two people wavering before my eyes.

After what seemed like an eternity, I wiped away the blood seeping from the corner of my mouth, staring at the words "severe blood depletion".

My fingers unconsciously traced over the dense network of needle marks covering my arms.

To this day, Xavion still doesn't know.

The blood flowing through his veins is mine.
