The world around them felt colder now, every breath Kaori took laden with a heaviness she couldn't shake. She had always thought that love could conquer all, that no force—be it fate, time, or distance—could sever the bond between two souls who were destined to be together. But now, with Ryo's revelation, that belief was beginning to crumble.
Ryo had warned her, had begged her to walk away before it was too late. But the fire in her heart only burned brighter, refusing to be snuffed out by the shadows that clung to him. It wasn't just love that tethered her to him now—it was something deeper, something intrinsic. She was a part of his curse, and he was a part of her.
That night, as she lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, Kaori couldn't sleep. Her mind raced with questions that had no answers. She had felt the changes—the unease in the air, the growing tension between them. But to hear him speak of it so plainly, to understand just how deeply entangled their lives had become in the web of his curse, was almost too much to bear.
And yet, despite everything, she couldn't bring herself to be afraid. Not of the curse, not of whatever darkness was lurking in Ryo's past. She was already too far gone to turn back now.
She had made her choice. She loved him, and she would stand by him, no matter the cost.
The next day, Ryo came to their usual meeting spot with a grim expression on his face, his eyes clouded with worry. Kaori stood up when she saw him, her heart aching at the sight of him. The tension between them was palpable, the air thick with unspoken words.
"Ryo," she said softly, approaching him with a sense of purpose. "I don't care what you think. I'm not leaving you."
Ryo's shoulders slumped as if the weight of her declaration had physically drained him. "Kaori... You don't understand. You think you do, but you don't. The curse—it's not just about me. It's about you too. I've already seen what it's capable of."
"What do you mean?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. "What's going to happen to us?"
"I've seen it in my nightmares," Ryo confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. "The curse will claim everything. It will tear us apart, slowly at first, and then all at once. It's already started with you. Your health will start to decline. Your spirit will wither. And in the end... in the end, you'll be consumed by it, just like everyone else who's ever gotten close to me."
Kaori's blood ran cold at his words, but she didn't back away. "I don't care. I've made my decision. I'm staying with you."
Ryo looked up at her then, his eyes filled with a mixture of disbelief and anguish. "Kaori... You have no idea what you're saying. I don't want this for you. I can't let you suffer because of me."
"But I'm already suffering," she said, her voice cracking under the weight of her emotions. "I'm suffering every day because I can't stand seeing you push me away. I don't care if it's a curse or a shadow or whatever it is—if you're in pain, I'm in pain. If you're lost, then I'm lost too."
For a long moment, Ryo was silent. He looked at her, as though trying to gauge whether she truly understood the gravity of what she was saying. His hands trembled at his sides, and she could see the tears brimming in his eyes. His pain was raw, palpable, and it tore at her heart to see him this way.
"Kaori..." he whispered, his voice breaking. "I'm so sorry. I never wanted this for you. But it's already too late. I've already dragged you into this."
"No," she said firmly, shaking her head. "We're in this together. I don't care if it's too late. I'd rather fight it with you than live without you."
Ryo closed his eyes, and a single tear escaped down his cheek. His lips quivered as he spoke again, his voice barely audible. "Then we'll fight it, together. But I need you to promise me something, Kaori."
"Anything," she replied, her heart pounding in her chest.
"Promise me that if it gets too much, if the curse takes too much from you..." His voice faltered, but he gathered himself to continue. "Promise me you'll let me go before it destroys you. I won't let it happen. Not to you. I won't let you suffer like this."
The words left him like a plea, a final request from a soul that knew it was already lost. Kaori reached out and took his hand, her fingers tightening around his, anchoring him to the reality they shared.
"I promise," she whispered, her voice unwavering. "But we won't let it come to that. I'll be by your side, Ryo. Always."
And in that moment, something shifted between them. The weight of the curse that had bound them both seemed to lift, just for a fleeting second, as if the power of their love had, in that brief moment, overpowered the dark force looming over them.
But they both knew it wouldn't last. The curse was coming. It was only a matter of time before it consumed them.

The days that followed were a blur of quiet moments and stolen glances, both of them holding on to each other as tightly as they could, knowing full well that their time was running out. They spent hours together, talking about everything and nothing, savoring every precious moment they had left. But in the back of their minds, the curse was always there, a constant, lurking presence they couldn't escape.
And then, one evening, Kaori noticed something. It was subtle at first—a strange, flickering light at the corner of her vision, an odd sensation that made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. It was as if the world around them had shifted ever so slightly, as if something was watching them, waiting.
She turned to Ryo, but he was already looking at her, his eyes wide with alarm. "It's starting," he said, his voice low and strained.
Kaori's heart sank as she realized the truth. The curse had begun to take hold.
