Dunesreach – Echoes of the Past

The clang of steel on steel rang through the small forge tucked near the edge of Dunesreach. Camila wiped the sweat from her brow as she carried a bundle of scrap metal toward the blacksmith. Though her strength was growing, the heat from the forge still took a toll on her body.

Garrick glanced up from his anvil, one eyebrow raised. "Not bad, girl. You don't shy from hard work."

"Figured if I'm gonna prove I belong here, I should learn to swing a hammer as well as a sword."

He grunted approvingly and motioned for her to sit. "Been a long time since I saw someone stubborn enough to hammer through this village's pride. Longer still since I saw someone who reminded me of your father."

Camila perked up. "You knew him?"

Garrick nodded. "He came through here some time ago. Thought he was just another older tester, looking to relive his glory days. But he had grit. Heart. Listened more than he talked. Learned faster than most of the young ones, too."

Camila smiled softly. "He used to help me fix things around the house. I remember how calm he was, even when we made a mess."

"You've got his eyes," Garrick said, then jabbed a thumb toward her chest. "But if you really want to honor him, let your actions speak for you."

She glanced around the village. Tavir's words echoed in her memory: "Your people."

"They didn't ask me to come here," she said aloud. "But they're watching me now. Depending on me to prove I'm not just a name. I want to be someone they can trust. Like they trusted him."

Garrick offered a rare smile. "Then keep going. And when you fall, get up again. That's how your father earned this village."

Verdant Labyrinth – Uneasy Companions

Miguel paused at the edge of a misty glade, his spear resting over one shoulder. Aeliana walked beside him in silence, her steps light and silent on the moss-covered ground. She had been observing him closely ever since they entered this part of the forest.

"You've stopped asking questions," Miguel said without looking at her.

"I've learned that listening gives better answers than asking," she replied, her gaze fixed on the path ahead.

Miguel smirked. "That's surprisingly wise for someone who claims to be lost."

"I never said I was helpless," Aeliana replied, her lips curling faintly. "And now that you're beginning to trust me, I'd like to prove myself."

He raised an eyebrow. "You want to fight?"

"If necessary."

Miguel paused, studying her for a moment. "Just don't get in over your head. This place doesn't give second chances."

Unseen to him, a small pulse of light flickered in Aeliana's irises—Eos quietly recording his words, measuring the changes in his tone, analyzing emotional fluctuations.

Miguel glanced at the boy, who was now checking the edge of his blade with surprising care.

"You're leveling up."

Lio looked up. "Took you long enough to notice. I can feel it. Like… something unlocking. Like I'm becoming more than just a shadow."

Miguel nodded. "You're not just a summon. You're my partner. We keep moving forward—together."

Dunesreach – Rising Flame

Later that night, Camila stood outside the tavern, watching the stars flicker above the desert sky. Her skin was scraped, her muscles sore, but her heart felt full for the first time since she'd entered the Tower.

A small group of villagers sat nearby, whispering among themselves. One of them finally stepped forward—a girl about her age.

"You fought well today," she said. "Took down that rockcrawler before the guards even showed up."

Camila blinked. "Thanks."

"I'm Lin," the girl said, holding out a hand. "I believed you were lying at first… about being Miguel's daughter. But no liar would stay through the pain you did."

Camila took her hand. "I'm still not him. But maybe I don't have to be. Maybe I just have to be… me."

Verdant Labyrinth – Hidden Path

Miguel, Lio, and Aeliana emerged into a sun-dappled clearing where the trees arched unnaturally, forming what looked like a massive keyhole into the ground. The air shimmered with static energy.

Miguel raised his spear. "Looks like the next real challenge found us."

Aeliana stepped closer, her voice calm. "Shall we face it together?"

Lio cracked his knuckles. "I was getting bored anyway."

Miguel smiled. "Then let's go make the Tower remember our names."
