Miguel stepped forward first, his spear humming with anticipation. Behind him, Lio adjusted the straps of his gear—mismatched pieces scavenged from fallen monsters. Beside them, Aeliana stepped into the gateway like she belonged there, her movements effortlessly graceful.

They stood in a circular chamber of glass and crystal, suspended in an endless void. Fire blazed through arcing channels in the walls. Lightning crawled across the ceiling like living veins. Gravity surged and warped the floor with each breath.
Miguel exhaled. "Here we go."
A molten shape formed ahead—four limbs, a gaping maw of coals, and eyes like twin furnaces.

Miguel rushed forward without hesitation. His spear ignited with Thunderflame, his footsteps a blur.

He struck from the side, embedding his spear into the molten beast's flank, but the creature didn't stagger. Instead, it reared up and brought its massive arms down in a crashing arc.

Camila stood in front of the yawning entrance to the Sand Hollow Cavern, sweat slicking her palms as she gripped her short sword and the dented shield one of the villagers had loaned her.
Lin and two others from the militia—Karo and Dell—stood with her. The air was thick with dust and tension.
"This isn't a major dungeon," Lin said, glancing at Camila. "But it's where most of us proved ourselves. Stick together. Trust each other."
Camila nodded. "I'm ready."
Inside, the caverns were dry and narrow, lit by glowing fungi and trickles of sunlight from cracks in the stone above. The first battle came quickly—three sand beetles burst from the ground.
Camila's instincts failed her at first. She raised her shield a moment too late and took a glancing hit to the ribs.
Karo shouted, "Right flank!"
She rolled, came up in a crouch, and slashed the beetle's undercarriage. It let out a shriek and collapsed.

Camila took a long drink, her chest heaving. "I'm not my father… but I'm not useless either."
"No one here thinks that anymore," Lin said with a proud smirk. "You've earned a place."

The Ashbound Behemoth collapsed into molten shards, the chamber trembling as a new enemy emerged—this one a living storm. It hovered, a humanoid silhouette of lightning and wind, moving too fast to clearly see.

Miguel grimaced. "That thing's fast."
Lio growled. "And hits hard. We need a plan."
Aeliana stepped forward. "Leave it to me. Distract it."
Miguel hesitated. "Are you sure?"
Her eyes glowed faintly. "Yes. Trust me."
She vanished in a blink of wind and reappeared behind the Revenant, striking with a dagger that flickered like a spark.
Miguel and Lio moved in tandem—Lio forcing the Revenant's back to Miguel, who channeled everything into his spear.

A surge of lightning struck true. The Revenant screamed and burst into fragments of raw energy.

"Are you sure?" Lin asked.
"Yeah. Let me do this."
She ran forward, heart pounding, and raised her shield just as the creature struck. The force sent her skidding back—but she held firm.
Karo and Dell moved in from behind. Lin's arrows thudded into the creature's eyes.
Camila roared and leapt upward, slashing across the soft membrane beneath the beast's jaw.
