Skyler's heart skipped a beat.
She didn't expect Old Master Wilson to be so perceptive.
She smiled sweetly. "Of course it's true. Grandfather, Logan and I got our marriage certificate from the Civil Affairs Bureau, and it can be verified."
"Really?" Old Master Wilson seemed a little doubtful, his slightly cloudy yet sharp eyes carefully studying her.
Skyler smiled even more charmingly. "Yes, of course it's true."
With her clear answer, Old Master Wilson finally nodded, though he still looked a little skeptical. A relieved smile appeared on his face.
"Good... If you're willing to marry Logan, it's the best arrangement. Skyler, do you know that from the moment I first saw you, I knew you were the one? I've been observing you for a year, and I know what kind of girl you are. That's why I insisted Logan marry you."
"My grandson may seem powerful and influential, but in reality… he doesn't even have a true confidant by his side. The people in the Lee family are all jackals and tigers, and he's very lonely. I'm afraid that after I'm gone, there won't be anyone left in this world who truly cares for him..."
"Grandfather, what are you talking about? You'll live a long and healthy life."
"No… I want you to promise me first," Old Master Wilson suddenly grabbed Skyler's hand.
His hands were trembling, but his grip was surprisingly strong.
"Skyler, promise your grandfather that no matter what happens in the future, you will take care of Logan for me! Don't give up on him!"
Skyler was confused by his words.
"Promise me!" The old man's eyes were slightly red as he stared at her.
After a few seconds of hesitation, Skyler nodded. "Okay, I promise you."
"During the contract period, I'll take good care of Logan. Consider it as a way to repay Old Master Wilson for his kindness over the past year," Skyler silently told herself.
---
After leaving Old Master Wilson, Skyler didn’t see Logan.
She figured he had probably left first.
Skyler didn’t care and hurriedly walked out, wanting to get back to work.
But as soon as she left the hospital, she ran into Isabella, who was stepping out of her car in seven-inch high heels.
Why was Isabella here?
"Isabella, give me back the ring!"
Without thinking, Skyler took a few steps forward and grabbed Isabella’s wrist.
She caught a strong whiff of perfume from Isabella—‘Sacred Tears.’ But she had sprayed too much, making the once sweet and mysterious orchid scent sharp and overpowering.
"And my perfume, give it back to me too!" Skyler demanded.
"Skyler, it's you again?" Isabella turned, and her face immediately changed.
"Why do you always show up everywhere like a ghost?" She spoke sharply, but her eyes flickered with guilt.
Isabella was extremely lucky she hadn’t brought the ring with her today. If she had, all the wealth and prosperity she had been dreaming of might have been ruined by this annoying woman, Skyler.
"If you give me back the ring and the perfume, I won’t bother you anymore. Otherwise..." Skyler tightened her grip on Isabella’s wrist.
Even though they were both women, Skyler had spent a year working and surviving on her own. She was much stronger than Isabella, a pampered rich girl with delicate hands.
Isabella's face twisted in pain as Skyler tightened her grip.
"Ah… it hurts… let go… the perfume… I spilled it, it's gone! And as for the ring… I didn't wear it today! I swear, I really didn’t wear it out!"
"That bottle of perfume was my mom's favorite, and you spilled it!"
Skyler noticed Isabella's empty neck. She felt both anxious and angry, and her grip tightened.
"Ah, it hurts! Be gentle… be gentle…"
Isabella was in so much pain that she couldn't help but beg for mercy.
"Okay, I was wrong! It's my fault… let me go… let me go… I'll give you back the ring, okay?"
Skyler released her grip. "Fine, where’s the ring?"
Isabella rubbed her red wrist. "I already told you, I didn’t wear it out!"
"You’re lying to me…"
Seeing that Skyler was about to use force again, Isabella quickly spoke up.
"Wait a minute! I can give you the ring back, but… you have to pay me for it! Give me two hundred thousand, and I'll return the ring!"
"Two hundred thousand?! Why don’t you just rob me?! That ring was mine to begin with! Why should I pay you two hundred thousand?!"
Skyler had never seen anyone so shameless before.
"I… I can’t do anything about it either." Isabella's eyes turned red, as if she were the one being bullied.
"I’ll be honest with you. That ring of yours is a men’s ring. I can’t even wear it myself, so I planned to pawn it. My mom already went to a pawnshop yesterday to ask about the price, and they said it could be worth up to two hundred thousand. If you don’t give me the money, my mom definitely won’t let you take it back!"
Skyler bit her lip and stayed silent.
She knew Isabella was telling the truth.
Her aunt, Emma, hated her to the core.
If that ring could be pawned for two hundred thousand, there was no way her aunt would return it to her for free.
As Skyler hesitated, Isabella was secretly watching her.
Seeing Skyler wearing designer clothes today, looking soft and elegant with a hint of nobility, Isabella felt jealous.
Even though she was sure Skyler was wearing knockoffs, she still felt bitter. Her eyes turned red with envy.
She was determined to extort some money from Skyler and make her suffer.
"Here's the deal. Since we were at least sisters once, I’ll give you two more days. If you can raise two hundred thousand in two days, I’ll give you the ring back. Otherwise, even if you have thirty thousand, you won’t be able to redeem it once it’s pawned!"
After Isabella finished speaking, she jumped into her car and drove away.
Although she regretted not being able to meet that big shot today as planned, she had to avoid Skyler for now.
She couldn’t let Skyler find out that someone had come looking for her because of that ring.
Skyler didn’t care about Isabella’s actions.
She stood on the side of the road, head lowered, her mind filled with the thought of the two hundred thousand "ransom."
That ring was the key to finding out who had taken her virginity.
It was the only clue she had.
Even though she no longer had any hope for that man, something deep inside her told her that the ring was incredibly important and that she had to get it back.
But where was she going to find two hundred thousand?
"Miss Skyler," a familiar male voice called from behind her.
