FREYA

My anger died out like a flame in the cold and it was replaced by unhappiness. That unhappiness was mixed in with a terrible amount of pain.

“You want me, but you also do not? It pains you to see me with another but you are unwilling to do a thing about it? That is the reason for your anger, Adrien?”

“My name is Matthew Carter and I have a life that's waiting for me! These feelings are fleeting and I cannot let them get in the way of reuniting with my wife!” He yelled at me.

It was too much to bear, and I felt the all too familiar burn of tears behind my eyes.

Not in front of him. I cautioned myself inwardly. So I quietly turned, rushing to the door to let myself out. This was more than I was ready for.

Above the pounding in my ears, I did not hear him follow. Stretching a hand from behind me, he pushed the door shut.

“I'm sorry, Freya, that was unfair.” He sighed, covering my body with his from behind and engulfing me in his warmth.
