Through the Castle Doors

FREYA

“The king is back, your grace.” The man-servant announced just as he entered the library. His voice was elated as was my spirit immediately. My open book fell from my hands to the floor, now irrelevant in the face of Adrien's return.

Hurriedly, I left the library with Ana in tow, the smell of old parchment still lingering in the air as we walked briskly. Running would be improper for the Queen, but I was sorely tempted to.

The castle was abuzz with noise and the hum of excited chatter as groups of servants lined up around the castle doors to welcome their king home.

They parted a way for me and I walked through to the center.

“Where are they?” I asked one of the guards stationed at the door at all times.

“They will be here in a few moments, Your grace. Scouts spotted them from far off.” He bowed his helmeted head.

Tucking my hands together, I took a deep breath. I was about to pass out from the excitement.
