Beneath the Glowing Caps

FREYA

“What is this place?” I peered intently at the area. “I cannot make out what it is.” How was this place a part of him? I thought to myself, the question buzzing in my mind like an angry bee.

“You cannot see it yet.” He chuckled lowly. “Allow me to show you.”

Adrien's voice echoed in my head the next moment, “Listen carefully, Freya. Tell me what you hear.”

Moving to the side, he stood closely behind me, his front barely grazing my back and even through my cloak, I could feel his heat burn every single point of contact.

Squeezing my eyes shut, I focused on all the sounds around me. There was no sound now apart from the gently moving water. I was yet to ascertain where the sound came from in the absence of light.

“I hear a stream.”

“And…?”

“Only a stream, Adrien.”

“There is more than a stream here, Snow.”

I tried to pay attention again and came up with nothing. Only the lapping of water across rocks reached my ears.
