Chapter 11: The Depths of APGA
Back on Earth, Thalaya had returned to the APGA building, drawn into its deepest facilities. Thalaya, the mother of twin daughters Elara and Maya, had agreed to a bizarre experiment. Despite the strangeness of the situation, she consented to the cloning process as if brainwashed to accept anything related to APGA.
Seated in a stark white room, Thalaya watched as Scientist 4 extracted a sample of her blood. The scientist used Dr. Calder's Hemogen, a sleek, portable device resembling a futuristic ink pen. With its fine needle, it captured the essence of Thalaya's genetic blueprint from a single drop of blood. Thalaya's unique trait of hyper-regeneration made her an ideal candidate for cloning.
After the extraction, Thalaya returned to her APGA-provided room, feeling a sense of unease. Her daughters had not contacted her, and their absence gnawed at her. She decided to contact the old lady Merinkle, known for her teleportation ability, based on information from Madam Asia. The standard teleportation devices were incompatible with strong Arcanians like Thalaya.
Before she could act, Scientist 4 summoned her to the basement, revealing rows of her clones. Thalaya was shocked to see that within a mere day, one hundred clones had been created. Puzzled and concerned, she tuned into the mind of clone 0001 and discovered that the scientists were implanting memories and dreams into the clones. Contrary to historical accounts of clones being blank slates, these clones had complex mental landscapes.
The realization that her clones were not mere copies but individuals with implanted experiences captivated Thalaya. She knew she had to inform her daughters. However, she was also drawn deeper into the enigmatic workings of APGA. Her curiosity mingled with a growing sense of urgency to uncover the truth and protect her family.
