Until Your Last Breath: Chapter 3

"Grace wake up!" I stood up , way too abruptly. It was Sam . I was back in my cabin . Everyone was around , doing their own thing. "Be careful, John isn't in a good mood today." She warned me with a slight smile again, just like she had a few hours back. Or was it ? I had to make sure. I waited for a while again , and my heart fell in despair when I heard what I didn't want to hear. "Ms. Grace , why have you not uploaded the announcement to our page yet?"

"It's happening all over again....." "What did you say ?" John asked me. Of course I sounded crazy. "Sir, at 11AM, the sun is going to set . There will be monsters trying to kill you and the building next to us will blow up." He didn't look confused , or scared. He looked at me like I was trying to make up a lame excuse. "I'll give you 15 minutes to get a hold of yourself and upload the announcement." He left.

"Grace, come over here ! right now!" It's happening. I walked over to Sam , and with a little hard work, moved her aside from the crowd. She'll believe me. She has to. "Sam, listen to me carefully , The sun setting isn't a miracle to enjoy. In a few minutes , the building with our coffee shop will blow up. There will be monsters , and it won't hesitate to kill. We need weapons , a plan and a team. " She looked at me just like John looked at me. I did not like where this was going. "Are you su-" There was a huge sound , the sound of the building being blown up , before she could finish what she was saying.

The look of dismay that fell upon Sam's face when she realized that I was in fact , not , crazy , made me wish that I knew nothing at all , just like her. The familiar voice of all my colleagues running around in panic bought me back to the present. "Sam , don't go out. Let's watch first." She was too shocked to question me why. We walked over to the window to try and make out what the situation was , despite the darkness engulfing the city as a whole.

Hundreds of people , ran outside like a wave at sea , panicking , not knowing what to do , unable to process the situation. And then there was me , and my close friend Sam , staying exactly where we were to try and get a near accurate understanding of what was going on. It wasn't long before the beast made it's appearance. I watched in dread , as the white beast walked out from behind one of the huge building. They ran. All of them ran as far as they could , hiding behind the abandoned cars , or moving around them , but to no avail. It got to them all .

If I knew anything at all , it was that if the beast got to you , there will be no remains . It'll devour you like you're the last thing it's gonna eat. The teeth piercing into your flesh , smooth , yet painful. Sam and I watched the beast completely destroy the others. "Grace , what's going on? This makes no sense at all! How did you even know this was going to happen?"

I was confused myself , so what would I tell her? It was distressing to see her in this situation but hey, at least she's alive , right in front of me. "I don't know much either, but we need to get out of here and find survivors. I really hope we find them." She agreed. We couldn't go out with something as silly as a keyboard this time. We split up to look for possible weapons . Oh yes ! The pantry could have something ! I was making my wat to the pantry when Sam came back with a filled bag. "I found this at the pantry.... I don't think it was there before though. To be honest, it's quite uncomfortable to look at."

While I walked over to it , Sam opened the black duffel bag and revealed the black and silver items in it. The bag had weapons ranging from something simple as a kitchen knife , pistols , and revolvers to rifles , and snipers. None of us knew who kept it there, but since it was left in plain sight , we knew it was meant to be found out. It was useful , yes. But it left a question in our minds : who left it there?

But we had no time to ponder. We needed to get out. Find more people , and try to make sense of what's going on. "I have a better bag . We can keep most of the weapons in them." Sam looked... different. Maybe she had come to terms with the situation already, in which case I was glad. She bought her backpack and we packed a few pistols , revolvers , and knives in . Packing the rifles or something else would make it harder to run , so we had to rule it out. At the entrance , we could already hear the wind humming outside. It was back to being so still that merely breathing felt loud.

Sam and I chose a pistol as our initial weapon. I did have a knife tucked in my pant , so I could use it in case I couldn't use the pistols well. Sam didn't take it though . After looking around for a while , we made our way outside the building and onto the empty road. The beast had come up from behind me the last time. Of course I wouldn't forget that. I could see the truck right up ahead. Would driving right at again work?

**********************************************************************************Trying to run over that beast clearly hadn't worked because the same white beast with scars made its appearance from behind the office building. Blood dripping from it's teeth , it made its way to us slow... excruciatingly slow. Now what confused me was this: It should be able to see we noticed it , right? Then why was it not trying to attack us right now? Sam opened her mouth to talk , but she stopped herself. She looked at me , and mouthed something. I couldn't understand. The beast was still moving slow , like it was never going to reach us. She stopped trying to tell whatever she was telling to me.

Out of the blue, Sam bent down and picked up the piece of a broken car door. She threw it. Not at the beast , but to the left side of the road . I looked at her like she was mad but she motioned at me to look at the beast. My confusion towards her changed in a split second when I saw the beast walking to the left side of the road , towards the point where she threw the piece of metal. The beast was blind .
