Level Zero : Chapter 4

Out of the blue, Sam bent down and picked up the piece of a broken car door. She threw it. Not at the beast , but to the left side of the road . I looked at her like she was mad but she motioned at me to look at the beast. My confusion towards her changed in a split second when I saw the beast walking to the left side of the road , towards the point where she threw the piece of metal. The beast was blind .

If it wasn't for Sam , It would've taken a lot more time for me to figure out that the beast was blind. It had started to become agitated since it couldn't find the source of the sound. But we didn't have to fight it to survive , that was evident. Walking around the cars and the rubbles , trying our hardest not to make any noise , we moved further down the road. I needed to find that woman who tried to save me the last time.

We walked towards the car she was at the last time. She wasn't there. Where did she go? Was I wrong about everything? My thoughts were cut off when I heard a noise. Someone had turned the truck on. It was hard to see with the headlights blinding my eyes but it looked like the same woman who saved me. If she was doing something different than last time , does that mean she went through the same situation I did? I needed to talk to her but the noise from the truck had caught the attention of the beast . The sound still being heard , it was running towards the truck. I couldn't lose her . Both Sam and I moved to either sides of the road as we watched the beast and the woman charging at each other.

It growled, and I shielded my ears from it's deafening sound. I thought the lady was going to crash into the beast head on but no , she seemed to have a plan. As she sped closer and closer to the beast , she turned the truck to the side and the container behind the truck came sliding towards the beast. with a huge thud , the beast flying across a few cars and fell unconscious. This was our chance. Sam ran towards the beast and shot it right in the head before I could even process everything. The woman in the truck looked a little dizzy , but she too got out and walked towards the beast. Maybe this one shot wouldn't just kill it. I pulled out my knife as I walked towards it . It was still breathing . Weak , but alive. Sam and the woman helped move it's head to get a clear view of the neck. It's white fur , soaked with the blood of so many , was going to get soaked by it's own blood now.

As I sliced through it's neck , the beast moved so fast , and slit my arm with it's fangs. And that was it. I was bleeding a lot , but at least we didn't die. "What's that?" the woman asked , pointing at the beast's neck . There was nothing there before , but now there was something that looked like a collar. There was something written on it too. "Ivory Fangdrift" . As soon as I read out it's name , the warm red streetlights turned completely red. Someone started speaking.

"Congratulations. You have passed Level Zero successfully. Aim: Defeat Ivory Fangdrift. Reward: 100 points , shelter and food for 24 hours. All the winners , Enjoy!" What was that ? We didn't even see who talked. 100 points... food and shelter for a day... what happens after? Level Zero? What is going on ? I looked over to see Sam and the woman already talking. "Hey, I'm Jess. I don't think this is the first time we're meeting. " She said , as she held out her hand to me. " Yeah it's not. In fact , I saw you in that weird white room thing? Were you not able to see me when I talked to you?" Jess looked at me puzzled. "No , I guess I didn't see you then. How'd you know I was there?" I told her about what happened to me so far. She did the same. She was an employee in one of the buildings who also ran out like most of the people. Luckily , she was able to escape from it long enough to know that the beast , Ivory Fangdrift, was blind and used it to her advantage. That's when she saw me about to be killed . she caught it's attention but she had no way of defending herself , so she admitted it was a dumb move. She was killed , and she woke up to the white room just like me , and had the same day repeat itself .

"Guys , look over there..." Sam nudged me to get my attention. right on the side of the dimly lit road , replacing the once blown up building , there was ... shelter. A manor. When did it even get here? Asking about it was of no use cause no one knew why all this was happening anyways. All we did know , was that we had to survive. Sam started walking over to the manor , like it was nothing. It was weird because Sam was the type of person to ensure everything was absolutely safe before doing something. Something was up with her , and I didn't know what. "Sam , wait ... Let's go check home first." Her eyes .... were different. It was dark , and the little hope I had seen in them were gone now. "Are you okay?" She nodded. Something was definitely off .

Driving wasn't an option since the road wasn't exactly clear. We walked to each of our places and as predicted , no one was there. no note , no signs of them running away either. At this point , We could only hope that the rest of the family was okay. It was time we took it all in . The roads were filled with abandoned cars , blood pools , and rubble. Many other buildings had also blown up. All the shops and buildings looked abandoned , not a single human in sight . The only source of light was the warm lights from the streets. There was nothing else. We kept hoping there were more survivors.

We got back. And there were noises.... and that meant more people ! Barging into the place would only scare the people inside right now so we rang the bell. They fell silent ... like we were meant to be some threat. Even though it was barely audible , I could hear them say , " Take the bat , we need to get them fast."
