Chapter 9: The Cyber Huntress

The cityscape stretched before us, bathed in the eerie glow of neon lights and flickering holograms. Nyx led us through the maze of abandoned skyscrapers, her every movement calculated, precise. I had questions—too many—but for now, survival came first.

"You never answered my question," I said, keeping pace. "Who the hell are you?"

Nyx smirked but didn't slow down. "I could ask you the same thing. You're not just some random player, are you?"

Before I could respond, a loud metallic screech tore through the night. A swarm of System Drones burst from the sky, their red optics scanning for us.

Bullets rained down as we dove for cover behind a collapsed monorail. Specter fired his plasma rifle, taking out two drones, but more kept coming.

A barrier flickered to life around us, absorbing the gunfire. Nyx glanced at me, intrigued. "Not bad. Maybe you do have a chance."

"Less talking, more shooting!" Specter growled, tossing an explosive disc. It detonated midair, shredding half the swarm.

The remaining drones recalibrated, targeting us with charged energy blasts.

Nyx pulled an EMP arrow from her quiver and fired. The projectile exploded in a pulse of blue energy, frying the drones instantly.

She stood up. "Come on. I know a place where we can regroup."

The Resistance Hideout

She led us into a hidden underground facility. The walls were lined with holographic blueprints, stolen System data, and weapon schematics. Armed rebels moved through the halls, nodding at Nyx.

"Welcome to the Resistance," she said.

"They're not enemies," she assured him. "At least not yet."

"We're just trying to survive," I said.

The man studied me. "Then you're in the right place. But if you want to live, you need to understand one thing—this game is rigged against us."

My fists clenched. "Then let's change the rules."

Nyx grinned. "Now that's the spirit."
