A Sudden Turn of Events

"Simon, look over there, that person looks like Chuck."

A long time had passed, and just as Simon was enjoying a moment with Meg, she suddenly noticed Sarah walking hurriedly and Chuck acting a bit strangely.

"It looks like they're being chased? Interesting!"

Simon quickly understood why. Not far away, a black SUV was accelerating toward them.

Realizing the danger, Chuck, who had seemed confused just a moment ago, quickly jumped into a car.

Perhaps knowing there wasn't enough time to turn around, Sarah, who was driving, rapidly reversed to escape the pursuit.

"Should we follow them?" Meg, now realizing the situation was more than she expected, asked nervously.

Simon thought for a moment before starting the car: "Chuck is my friend, I want to follow and see what's going on. There might be danger, so you should wait for me at the nearby café."

"What? No! I'm going with you!" Meg immediately refused when she heard Simon was going alone.

"Listen, Meg, I don't want you to get hurt! So, just do it for me and stay somewhere safe, okay?" Simon persuaded her.

Meg shook her head. "No!"

"Fine!" Seeing Meg's refusal, Simon had no choice. "Take out your phone, and if anything goes wrong, be ready to call the police."

After saying this, Simon started the car.

Simon had already prepared himself to help Chuck if needed, but now, he decided to wait for the right moment. If the situation seemed off, he'd stay back and prioritize Meg's safety.

"I know what to do!" Meg said as she took out her phone.

Soon, Simon witnessed a car chase.

The black SUV seemed like a madman, constantly ramming into the reversing car.

Chuck's car seized an opportunity and performed a perfect drift, driving down the pedestrian stairway to the lower road.

The SUV, too large to follow, quickly adjusted its direction and continued its pursuit along the main road.

To avoid detection, Simon kept a 30-meter distance behind them.

As Simon made a sharp turn to the lower road, he saw the SUV ram Chuck's car off the road.

Realizing the severity of the situation, Simon quickly shouted, "Meg, call the police!"

Meg nodded and dialed 911.

While Meg was on the phone, Sarah and Chuck didn't give up easily.

Simon saw Sarah seize the moment and throw a knife that struck a hidden safety barrier's activation button.

This caused the SUV charging at her to crash into the barrier, almost flipping over.

With this brief moment to breathe, Sarah quickly pulled Chuck toward a nearby building.

Moments later, a large, disoriented white man holding a gun chased after them.

Seeing this, Simon thought for a moment, then opened the glove compartment in the passenger seat.

"Simon, what are you doing?"

Seeing Simon pull out a handgun, Meg became fearful.

Though it was legal to carry firearms in the U.S., few people had ever experienced a gunfight firsthand.

For many, firearms were frightening.

After checking the handgun and magazine, Simon said, "Those people chasing Chuck clearly mean harm. I'm going to check it out."

The handgun Simon held was a famous Glock 17.

He had purchased it legally, and in the U.S., any citizen over 18 could apply for a gun permit with a simple background check, and after ten days, the purchase would be approved.

Not only did Simon have a gun permit, but he also had a concealed carry permit and an open carry permit.

Even if the police stopped him, there would be no issue.

"Simon, the police are almost here. We should just stay in the car until they arrive," Meg grabbed Simon's arm and said.

Simon patted her hand, "I'm just going to check it out! If things go wrong, I'll hide right away. Don't worry, I'll be fine!"

"Simon, don't do this!"

"Meg, trust me."

"Be careful!" Understanding Simon's determination to help Chuck, Meg reluctantly released his arm.

"I will!" Simon kissed Meg on the cheek, tucked the gun into his waistband, and left the car.

Although it took some time, Simon quickly reached the top of the building.

Before he could even make it up, a gunshot suddenly rang out from the rooftop.

Simon was startled and immediately drew his gun as he rushed up.

"LAPD! Drop your guns!" Taking a deep breath, Simon pretended to be a police officer as he charged forward.

"Chuck, are you okay?" Simon, relieved to see Chuck unharmed on the rooftop, let out a sigh of relief.

"Simon?" Chuck was surprised to see Simon. "Are you a spy too?"

"A spy? No, I saw you being chased, so I came to help," Simon replied, somewhat surprised. He had suspected that Sarah might be a spy, but he hadn't expected the man to be one as well.

"What's going on?" At this point, Simon was confused. Things had escalated far beyond what he imagined.

But since there was no immediate danger, Simon didn't want to be mistaken for a spy and holstered his gun.

"Listen, I'll explain everything later. Right now, I need to stop an assassination," Chuck said before quickly heading down the stairs.

"An assassination? What's going on?" Simon thought for a moment and, since he was already in the thick of it, decided to follow along.

The four of them quickly reached the back of the building, with Chuck, Sarah, and the other man continuing their way toward the street.

Seeing this, Simon called out, "Where are you guys going? I have a car!"

Upon hearing this, Chuck and the others stopped in unison.

"Where's the car? We need to get to the hotel in the back right away," Chuck said urgently.

"Coming right up!" Simon responded, waving to Meg, who was sitting in the passenger seat.

Upon noticing Simon's gesture, Meg, who had been sitting in the passenger seat, hopped into the driver's seat and drove the car over to meet them.

"Everyone get in!" Simon motioned for Meg to go to the back as he gestured for the others to get in.

Although Simon's car was a two-door sports car, squeezing in five people wasn't impossible.

After everyone was inside, Simon slammed the gas pedal, speeding toward the hotel Chuck had indicated.

What would have taken over ten minutes, Simon managed to do in just three minutes.

Before Simon could even bring the car to a stop, the man in the passenger seat—who was the other spy—jumped out of the car.

Chuck and Sarah quickly followed suit.
