Chapter 12 – The Bastard Teacher Who Needs a Beating
Quinn was still bickering non-stop.
Something about his family estate, the academy's entrance exams, and his grand ambitions as a future support mage.
I nodded occasionally, pretending to listen.
But honestly?
I had zero time to process anything he was saying.
My real focus was on someone else.
That teacher.
Professor Ryen.
He was standing a few feet away, his face constantly shifting between different expressions as if he were deep in thought.
I didn't like that.
Nope. Nope. Whatever you're thinking, Teacher, it's probably NOT true.
I internally panicked as I stared at him.
He was clearly over-analyzing something.
Was he suspecting me?
Did I act too weird?
I didn't know. But one thing was clear—I did NOT trust this guy.
I could tell just by looking at him.
This was the kind of person that needed to be pummeled.
Time to Leave the Ruin
Just as I was silently freaking out, the teacher suddenly clapped his hands.
"Students," he called out, snapping everyone's attention to him.
"This will be the end of our exploration."
I blinked.
…Oh?
Does that mean…
I can finally leave this stupid ruin?!
Hell yes.
I almost cheered in relief.
But then—
I froze.
Wait.
If we leave, then that means…
Won't they start checking my background?!
Panic Mode Activated
I recalled fragments of what I overheard earlier.
I hadn't caught the full conversation, but I did catch bits and pieces.
"Identity checking" … "bringing him back" … "preparing for the worst."
Shit.
They were going to look into who I was.
And if they found out?
Would they send me back?
I shuddered.
I didn't want to go back.
Not to the orphanage, not to the people who abandoned me, not to that life.
I had planned my entire escape.
I had worked my ass off to get a scholarship, hoping to one day get away from that place.
Now, after barely surviving, falling into a goddamn ruin, and getting my own system—
There was NO WAY I was going back.
Lining Up for Departure
The teacher pulled out a teleportation device and activated it.
A glowing blue formation appeared on the ground.
"The teleportation sequence is being prepared," he announced. "Everyone, line up."
I gulped.
I had no choice.
I needed to go with them.
I just had to figure something out later.
Before I could hesitate any further, Quinn grabbed my wrist and dragged me into line.
"Come on, bro!" he grinned. "We're all going together!"
I didn't even have the energy to protest.
I stepped into formation, standing among the students as they casually chatted like this was just another school trip.
And then—
I made a huge mistake.
I accidentally met eyes with the teacher.
Shit.
His expression?
That bright, knowing, almost TOO kind smile.
I immediately felt a chill down my spine.
What the hell was he thinking now?!
Was he suspicious?
Was he plotting something?
I gritted my teeth.
This bastard.
I didn't know why…
But something about his smug, unreadable face made me want to punch him.
