Chapter 3

Though I love him, I've loved him since the first time we met when he stood in front of me to protect me. So I endured the strange looks from others to comfort him, bought an ordinary wedding ring, and went home.

What is he doing here now?

Has he finally found his conscience after my death and wants to make amends in this way?

I followed Elias to that store. Perhaps because the impression was so strong, the clerk still remembered him.

"Mr. Frost, are you here to pick out a gift for your wife?"

Elias didn't deny it, but while the clerk was introducing him to the latest styles, he suddenly spoke up, "I want that ring you can only buy once."

I could tell the clerk was genuinely happy for me. As she took out that same ring model for Elias, she said, "Your wife wanted this one last time. She'll be so surprised when she receives it."

"Oh, Mr. Frost, we can engrave our rings. Would you like that?"

At this moment, my heart was in my throat. Although Elias had caused my death, my love for him over the past years wasn't fake. I still wanted to know if he had even a tiny bit of love for me, even just a little.

"Engrave ARIA on it."Elias's voice rang out, and in that instant, my heart, which had been hanging high, came crashing down, shattering into pieces.

The store clerk, thinking it was my name, happily went off to have it engraved. Elias waited there, his expression impassive.

Only I was completely dead - my body dead, my heart dead.

But for some reason, I found myself shackled to Elias's side, unable to leave.

How cruel the heavens were, to have me killed by them, and then force me to witness their love even after death.

Was this punishment for my blindness, for giving my heart so foolishly?

After the ring was engraved, Elias casually picked out a necklace, then paid and left the store.

I followed him home. As soon as we entered, Aria feigned distress, Honey, Melody still hasn't come back. Do you think something might have happened?"

Perhaps not expecting me to be absent, Elias hesitated for a moment before relaxing.

"She's probably just throwing a tantrum. Don't worry about her. She has no family or friends here. She'll come crawling back sooner or later."

I stared at Elias in disbelief. Only now did I realize that my journey across mountains and seas for love was, in his mind, merely a guarantee that I wouldn't leave.

No wonder! No surprise he dared to blatantly bring Aria home. He apparently thinks I can't survive without him.

Aria felt guilty, "It's all my fault for coming here. I shouldn't have made Melody angry and affected your relationship."

Her expression was remorseful. Elias felt terrible for her and put his arm around Aria's shoulders to comfort her. "It has nothing to do with you. We never had any real feelings between us. I only married her because she seemed suitable for everyday life."

Aria was about to say more, but Elias cut her off.

"Let's not talk about these unpleasant things anymore. I've prepared a birthday gift for you. Come see if you like it!"

Elias talks about me like I'm bad luck, completely forgetting that Aria originally broke up with him because she found his work unlucky.

I couldn't help but smile bitterly at myself as I watched Aria effortlessly receive the ring I had longed for but never got.

When she put it on her finger, though, the ring was a bit tight. The touched expression on her face suddenly froze.

"Elias, did you get the size wrong? This doesn't fit me."
