Chapter 8

Upon waking from a deep sleep, just as he was about to leave, he suddenly looked at me, hesitating to speak.

"Lacey... Scarlett says... she wants a wedding..."

I was stunned by his words, not understanding what Scarlett's desire for a wedding had to do with me.

Tiernan, in the next moment, apologetically cleared up my confusion.

"Lacey... I'm sorry..."

"Scarlett doesn't know how long she has left to live. I can't bear to deny her this wish."

The implication was... Tiernan was going to marry Scarlett.

"We've been divorced for a long time. Whoever you want to marry is your own business. You don't need to tell me."

I stated the established fact with a wooden expression, feeling no ripples in my heart.

I even felt relieved that they were getting married. This way, I wouldn't have to hide anymore, fearing Tiernan might discover the child.

He, however, took this as me saying one thing but meaning another, and put on a dramatic performance of deep emotion.
