Chapter 7

He signed his name with a flourish after speaking.

Muttering under his breath, he chided me: "I don't know what you're trying to prove with this stunt."

"Even if I sign this, you still can't leave me. You'll come back to me sooner or later, won't you?"

"Lacey, you have no idea how much you depend on me."

I froze in place as I was taking back the divorce papers, hearing those words.

Only then did I realize that my dependence had long since become Tiernan's means of controlling me.

I couldn't quite put my finger on the feeling in my heart.

"I'm going to cook dinner."

After hastily saying those words, I fled once again.

Hiding in the kitchen, I couldn't help but think back to the past.

My mom was a brilliant doctor who became a deputy chief at a young age, but she gave up her promising career to stay at home for my dad.

They became the perfect couple that everyone envied.
