I stood frozen in place for several seconds, unable to process what had just happened.
Until my memory froze on the last second before I fainted, when I heard the doctor say clearly: "The baby is out!"
If it came out, then where was it?
I panicked and jumped straight off the bed.
The sudden movement caused the needle in my hand to shift, and blood started dripping steadily.
Tiernan rushed in at that moment to stop me, holding me in his arms and trying to calm me down.
"Lacey, be good and take care of yourself. Sweetheart is fine."
I didn't believe him at all. I grabbed Tiernan's collar and pulled him down to my eye level.
"Where exactly is the baby?"
I was already anxious to death, but Tiernan was still moving at a leisurely pace.
One moment he told me to sit down, the next he told me to lie down.
Finally, I couldn't stand his dithering anymore and raised my hand to slap him across the face.
Tiernan held his cheek without any hint of anger, sighed, and sat down beside me.
