Chapter 11

On the day of my due date, Scarlett came to my hospital room alone.

She saw me smirk, then took off the hat on her head.

"Lacey, do you see this? This is all because of you."

"Do you know how much I suffered during chemotherapy?"

"Do you know how helpless I felt watching my hair fall out and being unable to do anything about it?"

"If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have gone through all this. The doctor said if I had gotten treatment earlier, there was an 80% chance I would have been fine."

"But I told you right away, and you didn't believe me."

I ignored her baseless accusations and calmly stated the facts.

Scarlett, however, seemed triggered and lunged at me like a madwoman, screaming, "Lacey, I'm about to die, you and that baby in your belly need to pay for my life!"

I was cornered against the wall, unable to move easily, as Scarlett grabbed my throat.

"This baby is Tiernan's, isn't it?"

"You may fool him, but you can't fool me. I won't let another woman bear his child."
