004 God-Level Luck, Hundreds of Millions Worth of Pokémon
"God-level luck and the ability to view Pokémon data?"
Qin Yun was ecstatic. These two abilities were exactly what he needed at this stage.
Especially the ability to view Pokémon stats this was a game-changer. In the Pokémon world, identifying a Pokémon's true potential required extensive testing, specialized devices, and years of experience. With this, he could instantly assess any Pokémon's strengths, weaknesses, and future growth potential.
"With god-level luck on my side, I should at least get a Pokémon with decent potential. At worst, it should be low-tier potential," Qin Yun thought, suppressing the excitement in his heart.
Maintaining his composure, he approached one of the long tables filled with Poké Balls. His fingers hovered over a black-and-white Poké Ball before he was interrupted by a smug voice.
"Qin Yun, my luck is beyond yours. Just watch!"
Luo Qing confidently picked up a Poké Ball and released the Pokemon inside. A burst of white light revealed a small, green caterpillar-like Pokemon with large eyes and a segmented body.
Qin Yun took this opportunity to test his new ability.
[Pokémon: Caterpie]
[Type: Bug]
[Ability: Shield Dust (Prevents additional effects from enemy moves, including Poison Touch)]
[Strength: Beginner - Elementary]
[Potential: Below Standard]
[Moves: Tackle, String Shot]
[Pokédex Entry: It has a voracious appetite, capable of devouring leaves much larger than its own body. When threatened, it emits a pungent odor from its antennae.]
Qin Yun's eyes widened slightly. He hadn't expected the analysis to be so detailed it even displayed Caterpie's Pokédex entry! However, he quickly lost interest.
"This Caterpie is beyond saving," Qin Yun thought to himself.
Luo Qing, on the other hand, had a completely different reaction. His body stiffened as he read the Pokémon card issued by the Pokémon Center, which displayed Caterpie's stats.
"Impossible! How did I end up with a below-standard Caterpie?! This must be a mistake!"
Pokémon Centers provided official Pokémon data cards, summarizing each Pokémon's stats and potential. Since most trainers couldn't directly assess a Pokémon's growth capacity, these evaluations were the most reliable way to gauge a Pokémon's worth.
The murmurs of students nearby didn't help Luo Qing's embarrassment. His face turned red with frustration.
Ignoring the commotion, Qin Yun turned his attention back to the Poké Ball in front of him. He had a strong feeling about this one.
He reached out, picked it up, and released the Pokémon inside.
A bright flash of light revealed a small humanoid Pokémon with white skin, green hair, and a red horn on its forehead.
"Ralts!"
Qin Yun was momentarily stunned. He hadn't expected to get Ralts as his starter Pokémon.
The small Psychic/Fairy-type Pokémon trembled slightly under the attention of the crowd. Sensing the unfamiliar gazes, Ralts hesitantly took a tiny step closer to Qin Yun, seeking comfort.
This movement was barely noticeable, but Qin Yun, with his sharp observation skills, caught it immediately. A warm smile appeared on his face.
"Ralts, from now on, we're partners. Let's do our best together!"
Hearing Qin Yun's gentle voice, Ralts peeked at him through its green bangs. Feeling his sincerity and kindness, she slowly let go of her tension.
"Raa..."
The tiny Pokémon called out softly.
Qin Yun reached out and gently picked up Ralts, cradling her in his arms. He could feel her body relaxing, her earlier nervousness fading away.
A mocking voice interrupted the touching moment.
"Hah! Qin Yun, your luck isn't that great after all," Luo Qing sneered. "Ralts might be a rare Pokémon, but its combat ability is weak. Choosing it as a starter is a terrible decision. Most trainers struggle to even train it properly!"
He wasn't entirely wrong. Ralts was notorious for its frail build and timid nature. Trainers who failed to bond with their Ralts found themselves with a Pokémon that refused to battle. Many rookies gave up on Ralts entirely due to its slow early-game progress.
Luo Qing smirked, stepping closer.
"And let me guess your Ralts has low-tier potential. Just watch, I'll be getting a medium-tier starter soon. My father prepared one for me."
As he spoke, he casually glanced at Ralts' official Pokémon card.
His expression froze.
His pupils dilated in shock.
"What...?"
[Obtained Pokémon: Medium-Tier Ralts]
[Triggering Hundredfold Increase in Potential...]
[Ding! Ralts' potential has been upgraded to High-Tier - Peak! During evolution, there is a probability of triggering Shiny status and reaching Ultimate-Tier Potential.]
[Ding! Genetic trait activated Ralts has learned Teleport.]
Qin Yun's heart pounded as the system's notifications flooded his mind.
[Pokémon: Ralts]
[Type: Psychic/Fairy]
[Ability: Telepathy (Can sense the thoughts of its trainer and allies.)]
[Strength: Beginner - Elementary]
[Potential: High-Tier - Peak]
[Moves: Disarming Voice, Growl, Double Team, Teleport]
[Pokédex Entry: The horn on its head senses emotions. It rarely appears before humans, but if it senses positive feelings, it approaches willingly.]
Qin Yun's eyes widened. A high-tier peak Pokémon?!
If he didn't completely mess up his training, this Ralts was almost guaranteed to become a professional-level battler. In Jiang Cheng's Pokémon market, a Pokémon with such potential would cause a bidding war, easily fetching hundreds of millions of Pokémon Coins.
And it could still evolve! If nurtured properly, there was a real possibility that Ralts would reach Ultimate-Tier potential after evolving into Gardevoir.
Luo Qing, meanwhile, was trembling.
"Medium-tier?! How?! That's the only medium-tier Pokémon available in this selection!"
His outburst drew attention. Other students turned their heads, crowding around Qin Yun.
"Qin Yun got the only medium-tier Pokémon?!"
"Wait let me see!"
"Touch it! Maybe I'll get some luck!"
Ralts, overwhelmed by the attention, whimpered and buried her face in Qin Yun's chest, trembling.
Qin Yun quickly hugged her closer, whispering softly.
"Don't be scared, Ralts. I'm here."
Seeing his protective stance, the onlookers hesitated.
Serena, who had been observing from a distance, smiled slightly.
"As expected of Qin Yun," she thought. "Ralts is lucky to have him as a trainer."
She didn't know why, but something about the way he treated Pokémon made her feel warm inside.
As the selection continued, Qin Yun silently vowed
He would make Ralts the strongest Gardevoir the world had ever seen.
