Prologue (5) The fall

It had been ten years since Dustin was born.

Their first son. After they had given birth to Dustin, Marcelle took in and gave birth to another child three years later, a daughter, Mabel.

Edward was a man now, Thirty Five years of age, and had a wife who he never stopped loving and she never stopped loving him for Ten years straight, he was blessed.

*So get me some flowers, that's all I need honey, you've bought me enough gifts that'll last me a lifetime, it's a lot.* Marcelle told Edward on the phone, He could hear her giggling and he smiled. (* Is used to show that the person talking is on the other end of the phone)

"Don't worry, I'm going to get you the best flowers, and tell the kids I have a gift for them." Edward chimed.

*I'm waiting for you Eddy, drive safe and come back soon, I love you.*

"I'll be there before you know it, I love you too Marcelle, more than you know." Edward kissed on the phone, he was elated as he hung up, it had been a while since he last saw Marcelle, a week to be exact, he had gone on a business trip overseas but now he was excited to go meet her again and maybe make another baby.

He stopped by at a flower shop and bought the best bouquet of flowers that they had. He fast walked out of the shop and went into his car immediately, wasting no time. He had also bought chocolate for the kids earlier, he couldn't wait to hear their cute voices telling him their random stories of what happened to the in school and kiss him all over refusing to get off him because of the chocolate, his kids loved chocolate way too much.

He was driving on the road when it happened, he wasn't even driving very fast.

A truck loaded with building materials had run into his car.

It was just like a movie to him, he was caught in slow motion. He couldn't move or do anything, he just stayed there and watched himself get stabbed in the chest by broken fragments from his car and his waistline get divided horizontally.

His body divided horizontally into two in his car, separating his torso from his legs.

He was dying, he never thought he would go out this way. Why? Why now? When everything was going smoothly for him? When he finally had the life he dreamed about?

The materials from the truck fell on the car, crushing the car and his body with it. It was an irreversible damage caused to both him, the car and Marcelle's heart.

'ahhh.. so this is what karma feels like? A cruel death for killing my father on that day. Truly cruel one, what is life? I had a hell of a life. I don't ever want to live again, if this is how life is. The only thing I enjoyed in this life was the time I spent with you, Marcy..' His eyes were heavy and foggy, his brain couldn't keep up with his thoughts anymore, he was feeling hazy. He was dying.

But even on the brink of death, he clutched the flower he bought for his wife and the locket he always wore as a lucky charm on his neck with the picture of his wife and children and him in a family photo.

He held them in both hands tightly, refusing to let them go.

'I will always love you..' He drew his last breath, a painful death, A lonely death, A useless death, you could call it whatever, fate was indeed cruel to him.

But it was the cruelest to Marcelle who lost her husband overnight.

She didn't know what to say when she was called by the hospital. She had been waiting for him all day and when she finally heard about him. He was at the hospital.

"What do you mean he's at the hospital??! He was just on his way back!!"

*I'm sorry ma'am but-*

"What happened to him??!! What happened to my Edddyy?!" Marcelle's voice was filled with shock and fear. The woman on the phone wasn't even angry or mad at Marcelle for yelling at her, she only felt pity for her.

"Wait for me, I'm coming there right now!!"

She immediately entered her car to drive to the hospital, the traffic wanted to delay her, but she left her car at the traffic and ran with her legs to the hospital, her breath was raggedy, sweat all over her face, she wanted to know what happened to her husband.

What met her was shock, sorrow, anguish. Words can't even explain how she felt back then as she heard of his death. She thought of revenge but the truck driver also died in the crash. Her heart was swollen with sadness, it felt like it was going to burst, she genuinely broke when she was given the flowers and locket that he held even as he was dead. His body refused to stop protecting it, she was carried home by her neighbor who had come to check on her sick mother at the hospital that night.

She didn't know what to do. She wasn't sure how to go on, how to live or what to do with her life. She became a drunk and depressed woman who only came home at night.

Her family did all they could to console her to no avail. Her mother comforted her, told her that it was okay. But Marcelle couldn't even imagine living without Edward.

'I guess that's why they say you should never fall too deeply in love.. now see where it got me, I can't even reason properly without you. Haha, I know it's selfish of me. But I'll prefer to die than remain in a world where you're non-existent.' Marcelle, who had thought over and over again had reached a decision, one that was selfish.

She didn't care, not about how her children will be, not about how the people that cared for her will feel. Not about what people will think. She was tired of living a life without Edward, it had been months now, she couldn't bare to go on.

And on that night, when the stars were shining brighter than ever and the sky looked more beautiful than she had ever seen all her life.

The weight of frustration and depression seemed to have melted off her shoulders. It was on that night she felt more lonelier than ever.

She hung herself. Died for love.

'Let's meet again my love... Edward.'
