I changed my phone and moved to a new city.
The reason for my departure wasn't to escape Damien.
It was because I found a letter from my advisor in my long-neglected email inbox, sent two years ago.
Before marrying Damien and becoming a full-time housewife, I was still in graduate school.
I majored in Chemistry, spending every day in the lab.
I was the best student in the lab, the advisor's star pupil.
But because of my marriage to him, I gave up the chance for a direct Ph.D. program, devoting myself entirely to taking care of Damien.
My advisor was heartbroken but didn't interfere too much with my decision.
He still felt my departure was a shame, though, and would occasionally send papers to my inbox.
He hoped I wouldn't forget to keep learning.
I kept up with them for the first few years, but later, as my mind became occupied with other things, I forgot about it.
