Chapter 32: Who breaks first

One evening, Ji-Ah's friends came over, filling the apartment with noise and laughter. Evelyn stayed in her room at first, not in the mood to deal with their teasing. But the moment she heard a deep male voice among them, she froze.

She stepped out and found a stranger sitting on the couch, laughing with Ji-Ah.

Evelyn's stomach twisted.

Min-Hye noticed her and smirked. "Oh, Evelyn, you're finally out. Meet Sun-Woo."

Evelyn's eyes flickered to Ji-Ah, who was still acting completely relaxed.

Ji-Ah smiled. "He's just a friend."

Sun-Woo grinned. "Nice to meet you, Evelyn. I've heard a lot about you."

Evelyn forced a smile. "Is that so?"

She wasn't sure what annoyed her more—the fact that Sun-Woo was here, or the fact that Ji-Ah was acting so damn unbothered.

Sun-Woo leaned back on the couch. "Ji-Ah told me you two are engaged but not really together. That must be interesting."

Evelyn's jaw clenched. "Did she?"

Ji-Ah gave her a look that was almost challenging, like she was waiting to see how Evelyn would react.

And Evelyn realized something.

This was on purpose.

Ji-Ah was testing her.

Fine. Two could play this game.

Evelyn walked over and sat right next to Ji-Ah, closer than necessary. She leaned in slightly, letting her shoulder brush against Ji-Ah's. "You're right, Sun-Woo. We're engaged."

Ji-Ah stiffened.

Evelyn smirked, turning to her. "And I take my engagement very seriously."

Ji-Ah met her gaze, her expression unreadable.

For the first time in days, Evelyn saw something crack beneath Ji-Ah's calm facade.

Good.

Let's see who breaks first.
