The long-awaited day of the fire show festival had finally arrived. The entire school buzzed with excitement, and the dormitory was no exception. As the sun began its descent, the sky painted in warm hues of orange and pink, students were getting ready for the festivities. The festival was known for its dazzling fireworks, delicious food stalls, and the lively atmosphere that brought everyone together.
Isagi adjusted his yukata in front of the mirror, feeling a bit awkward but also excited. It was a simple navy-blue piece, but it suited him well. He took a deep breath, knowing that tonight was going to be important.
"Isagi! Are you ready yet?" May's voice called from the other side of his door.
"Y-Yeah, just a minute!" he replied, his heart pounding a little faster.
When he finally stepped out, his breath caught in his throat. May stood there in a beautiful light pink yukata adorned with delicate floral patterns. Her hair was tied up, a few loose strands framing her face perfectly. She looked radiant, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Well? How do I look?" she asked, twirling slightly.
"You… you look amazing," Isagi said, his face heating up.
May giggled. "Thanks! You clean up pretty well yourself."
Before their conversation could go any further, Kaito and Akari appeared. Kaito wore a dark green yukata, while Akari's was a soft lavender. "You guys ready to head out?" Kaito asked with a grin.
"Definitely!" May said enthusiastically, practically bouncing on her feet.
The group made their way to the festival, the atmosphere growing livelier with every step. The streets were lined with colorful lanterns, and the air was filled with the scent of street food. Laughter and cheerful conversations echoed around them.
As they walked through the crowd, May clung to Isagi's arm. "This is so exciting! I've been waiting for this all week!"
Isagi smiled, feeling the warmth of her hand on his arm. "I know. I'm glad we're here together."
They stopped at a few food stalls, trying out different snacks and sharing them. There were moments of laughter when May insisted on trying to win a prize at a shooting game and failed miserably, and Kaito teasing Akari when she got too competitive at a ring toss.
As the night deepened and the festival lights glowed brighter, the time for the fireworks drew closer. They found a spot near the lake, the perfect place to watch the show.
May sighed happily. "This is the best festival ever."
Isagi glanced at her, his heart pounding again. The moment he'd been preparing for was approaching. The fireworks would start soon, and with them, the perfect chance to tell her how he felt.
But just as he was about to speak, Kaito clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, Isagi, you're not chickening out, are you?" he whispered with a mischievous grin.
"Shut up," Isagi muttered, his face turning red.
The first firework shot into the sky, bursting into a cascade of colors. The crowd cheered, and May's eyes widened with joy.
Isagi took a deep breath. "May, there's something I—"
Before he could finish, another firework exploded, drowning out his words.
May turned to him. "What did you say?"
He smiled nervously. "I'll tell you after the fireworks."
As the brilliant display continued, Isagi steeled himself. Tonight was the night. He just had to find the right moment.
