Leo moved through the dense grasslands, his sword slicing effortlessly through the towering blades. The air was thick, carrying the faint scent of earth and beasts.
Then—
Rustle.
Leo froze.
The grass ahead shifted. His heartbeat quickened.
Shit. They found me before I could provoke them myself.
A horned rabbit leaped out from the tall grass. Leo reacted instinctively, pivoting on his foot as his sword whipped through the air in a brutal horizontal slash.
Schlick!
The rabbit was bisected midair, blood spraying across the grass.
[Ding! 70 EXP gained.]
[Host has leveled up.]
"System, mute the fucking notifications! Can't you see I'm in the middle of something?!" Leo snapped, but he had no time to focus on that.
Because he wasn't alone anymore.
A dozen glowing red eyes pierced through the grass.
One horned rabbit is dangerous. A herd is a death sentence. And here he was—trying to provoke a whole horde.
"Why do I always do stupid shit?"
The rabbits charged. Leo clenched his jaw and raised his Mana Blaster.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Three horned rabbits dropped instantly, but the rest kept coming, unfazed by their fallen comrades.
Leo barely dodged a rabbit lunging for his gut, rolling to the side and slashing downward. Steel met flesh, carving through another enemy.
Another rabbit leaped for his face. Leo ducked just in time, the wind of its attack whistling past his head.
He kept moving. Always moving.
He couldn't get surrounded here—his trap was the only way to survive.
Bang! Another rabbit fell.
His body moved purely on instinct, but he could feel it—his stamina and mana were running dry. His breathing grew ragged. His muscles ached.
And the horned rabbits weren't slowing down. If anything, more were coming.
Slash. Bang. Dodge. Slash.
He cut down another enemy, but then—
A shadow flashed in his peripheral vision.
Before he could react—
RIP!
"ARGH!!"
Searing pain shot through his left forearm. His vision blurred as razor-sharp teeth sank into his flesh.
Leo gritted his teeth through the pain. No time to scream. No time to hesitate.
He smashed the butt of his gun into the rabbit's skull.
It shrieked, releasing his arm. Leo immediately drove his sword through its eye.
Schlick!
The rabbit went limp.
Leo exhaled, his arm throbbing in pain.
"Wow, just great. Just fucking great. Now I'm injured before even starting my plan. Fantastic."
Then, he saw it—
The hill.
His only chance.
Run, Leo.
Ignoring the agony in his arm, he sprinted full speed toward the rocky hill. The horned rabbits were right behind him, snarling, their claws digging into the ground as they pursued.
Just which idiot thought provoking a horde of horned rabbits was a good idea?
Oh, right. Me.
"JUST KILL ME ALREADY!" Leo yelled as he dashed through the grass.
The hill was close. His legs burned, but he forced himself forward, adrenaline numbing his wounds.
He reached the base of the hill and leaped up, scrambling up the rocks.
The horned rabbits skidded to a stop below, snarling and jumping after him, but they weren't fast enough.
Panting heavily, Leo collapsed behind a large boulder.
"Fucking… hell…"
He clutched his bleeding arm, gritting his teeth. The wound wasn't deep, but blood was dripping fast.
No time to rest.
He pulled out his med-kit, quickly bandaging the wound before chugging down a mana potion and a vitality potion.
Taking a deep breath, he peeked over the boulder.
The horde was still there. Waiting. Watching.
Leo exhaled. His grip tightened on his sword.
"Alright, you bastards… time for you all to die."
Time to hunt.
