Leo sprinted through the tall grass, his breath steady despite the sharp sting of his wound. Pain was secondary—his survival came first. If more horned rabbits caught his scent, he'd be done for. He needed to escape their territory and find shelter before nightfall.
As he ran, he scanned his surroundings, searching for a defensible spot. Soon, he found it—a rocky hill rising in the middle of the grasslands. The hill had several slopes, crevices, and natural barriers, making it an ideal shelter.
Survival priorities:
✔ Water – His moisture-absorbing bottle could keep him hydrated.
✔ Food – He had enough dry rations for two days if used sparingly, plus the option to hunt more horned rabbits.
✔ Shelter – The hill would provide a secure place to rest.
Surviving the trial wouldn't be a problem. But simply hiding for three days would result in a low evaluation score, and worse—no experience gain. He needed to hunt as many horned rabbits as possible before time ran out. He had two days left.
Leo's stomach growled. "Alright, let's feast first, then plan."
He gathered dry branches and grass, stacking them neatly before igniting the fire with his lighter. The flames crackled, casting flickering shadows as he roasted the rabbit meat. The rich aroma made his mouth water.
Taking a big bite, he grinned. "Damn, this is good. No wonder people pay crazy amounts for horned rabbit meat."
As he ate, his mind worked through potential strategies. His gaze drifted to the smoke curling into the sky, then to the rocky terrain around him. A plan started forming.
What if he controlled the rabbit's attack path?
If he could funnel them into a confined space, he could wipe them out efficiently.
By the time he finished eating, his plan was clear. He'd execute it tomorrow. For now, rest was the priority.
The Next Day
Leo woke at dawn, energized and ready. He spent the morning transforming the hill into a battlefield.
Step 1: Funnel the rabbits
Between two massive rocks, he created a narrow choke point—the only entry path. This would limit the number of enemies attacking at once.
Step 2: Traps
At ankle height, he strung steel wires between the rocks, perfect for tripping fast-moving enemies.
Step 3: Smoke Barrier
He positioned dry grass at key locations below. Once lit, the thick smoke would block the horned rabbits' acute sense of smell and disorient their vision.
Step 4: Emergency Escape
As a failsafe, he stacked loose rocks near the entrance. If he shot them down, they'd collapse, crushing any rabbits inside and sealing the path. A rope tied at the back provided an alternate escape route.
Stepping back, he admired his handiwork.
"What a masterpiece. The title of 'World's Smartest Man' should belong to me," he joked.
The only thing left? Luring the horned rabbits inside.
Leo cracked his knuckles, tightening his grip on his weapon.
"Time to begin the hunt."
