" I just want to live in my own world. If the moon goddess decides, she could give a mate or not but all I really want is to live with my mother in peace" Raine answered. She has never been so sure in her life.

Ellie muttered scornfully " I knew it! There's no mate. he rejected me intentionally. What an asshole "

The room fell into stunned silence for a moment, a ripple of amusement spread through the classroom afterwards, some students whispering behind their hands while others openly chuckled.

"Did he really just say that?" one of the girls snickered, nudging her friend.

"Wow, someone thinks he's too good for a mate," another guy mocked, rolling his eyes.

"Maybe the Moon Goddess didn't give him a mate because she knew no one would want him and he even has the nerve to reject Ellie" a girl in the back jeered, making the class burst into another round of laughter.

Raine clenched her fists under the desk, her nails digging into her palms. Her chest burned with humiliation, but she kept her face blank.

Ellie smirked, flipping her hair as she leaned closer. "What's wrong, Rowan? You thought playing the tragic little outcast would make you look noble? Please. The only reason you don't care about mates is because no one important would ever want you."

"You are next Ellie so get ready" Alpha Kieran Warned and slutty Ellie folded parts of her hair behind her ear with a red blushing cheeks.

I mean why not? The hot alpha just called her Ellie which means her father must have pulled some strings already. That's obviously why she wasn't killed at the entrance examination..

"Rowan Vale, Your reason is dumb enough but with time, I'm sure you will change your mind and see things differently. I thought you'd love to carry on the legacy of your father. He was a great man but it's also good you want to live long, people that are in quest of power usually die younger and sometimes shamefully, Just like your father"

Raine nodded. She doesn't even give a fuck if he was referring to her real father or whoever alpha Vale was. All she knew was that all fathers should go to hell. Perhaps all men.

"Can I sit now?"

"Not yet. Come up here and take your question paper.

Raine rose from her seat, keeping her expression neutral as she walked to the front of the class. The weight of everyone's stares pressed against her, but she ignored them. She had learned long ago that showing weakness only invited more cruelty.

Alpha Kieran held the paper in his hand but didn't offer it immediately. Instead, he smirked. "Before you get your script, you have to answer a riddle."

A murmur spread through the classroom. This wasn't part of the usual process.

Raine narrowed her eyes. "Alright sir"

The Alpha's voice was smooth but edged with amusement. "Listen carefully. I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have no body, but I come alive with wind. What am I?"

Silence settled over the room as the students exchanged glances.

Raine's mind worked quickly. That description was very much perfect for who she was days ago. But good thing is that had always been good with riddles that was the only way to kind of keep her busy when her mother leaves for work

She lifted her chin. "An echo?"

A flicker of surprise crossed Alpha Kieran's face before he smirked. " Your guess is not wrong."

A few students groaned in disappointment, while others whispered in astonishment.

Kieran finally handed her the exam paper. "Take your seat."

Raine snatched it from his hand and turned on her heel, making her way back to her desk without another word. Not until she looked at the paper she was given.

"Fucking mathematics? Oh bloody . Would I have to pass this one?" She asked

Ellie scoffed under her breath. "Of course, the freak knows riddles but not this"

Raine ignored her, it was eventually going to reach her.

"Not necessarily, you will be in a bigger trouble if you fail. Ellie you are up next. Why did you choose this academy?"

"To get a mate befitting my status, someone that would pass the test of being my type and we will have defeat packs and have kids that looks like us" she giggled.

" Uhh so you are basically here to find a fuck mate?" Raine teased and guess who's been laughed at now.
