Chapter 8- Trials~1

[Shelly's POV:]

It was tiring.

"Don't stop yet…come on, go for another kilometer." Hearing the trainer's voice, I nodded, and despite how shaky my legs were, I kept running.

It was shocking that despite how far I went, she reached me in seconds and encouraged me to push beyond my limits.

This was my fourth day of training with three different instructors—one for physical fitness, one for magic training, and one for combat.

Unlike before, when I used to live my peaceful life with my parents, recently, I barely got any time to breathe.

However, I wasn't going to back down.

Young master asked me, how much I treasured my parents…he asked me to show how much my parents mattered to me by training hard so that in two months, I could explore the Lost Forest and find him the book of spirituality.

I still have no clue how he got to know about it; however, if it's about returning the favor, then I surely would bring him the grimoire.

"*Huff* *Huff*" My breathing was uneven, and I barely could keep myself moving, but somehow, I pushed myself a little and finally reached the cliff.

"W-What?" Anastasia couldn't believe what the elder son just said.

Victor heaved a sigh as he repeated, "It's true… Carl requested to partake in an assassination."

Anastasia fell to the couch while Victoria failed to mutter anything for a long time after hearing what her son said.

In the room every family member except for Carlisle was gathered to discuss what the youngest had requested.

Elion voiced, "He seemed serious about it…and quite stubborn as well."

Hearing those words, Victoria asked, "Did he continue to ask for it?" She had a glimmer of hope in her eyes, thinking that her Carl was returning to his former self rather than acting all serious and frowny all the time.

However, "No…he only requested me once, but the look in his eyes clearly told me that if I didn't assign him a mission he would go by himself."

Elion has never seen that look in his second son's eyes for something like this. He was stubborn in the past but this looked more like hunger.

The family of four was quite in a dilemma by this request.

For them, Carl was still a child who needed to be protected from the darkness of the world. That's why, unlike Victor, who started going on missions by the age of twelve, they decided not to involve Carl in the family business and would send him to the academy to live a normal life.

But now…it seems he wants to get involved.

"Father…I have a suggestion." The eldest son continued to speak about his plan and that impressed the other three.

However, Anastasia had a worried visage as she said, "Won't it be a little harsh on little Carl?"

Victoria comforted the woman, "We can comfort a crying Carl but if he goes out there, he would be exposed to far severe dangers."

Anastasia also understood that what they were suggesting was for Carl's betterment; that's why she didn't show reluctance any further and said, "Take care of him, Victor."

The boy gave a firm nod before turning toward his father, "I will tell him."

In his room, Carlisle was reading the history book—trying to devour every single important thing about the world.

His plans for Shelly were straightforward. He would use the girl to get himself the book of Spirituality.

Canonically, Shelly gets it later in the story by going there all on her own and utilizing her spiritual power to become an uncontrollable powerhouse.

For the short duration, she channels the power of the Spirits, she becomes an invisible character—stronger than the Protagonist.

However, Spiritual energy is too unstable and overpowering, that's why, after being persuaded by the Protagonist, Shelly sacrifices those powers and returns to her weak self.

Stupid.

Spiritual energy allows infinite power since one doesn't need to store that much mana inside their body.

Spirits have infinite mana, and the one who can communicate with them becomes a medium to transmit their energy to the real world.

Carlisle is trying to become that medium, so he also receives an unending source of power.

Well, that's what he hopes for. However, the first step to that ambition was to get an elf prepared for the dangers of the Lost Forest.

And to prepare himself to channel that much energy, Carlisle wanted to train this body a little.

Although he has been regularly training these days, he felt this much was not enough.

He has to get into the Ravenshade's business and get some field experience to train his mind and body.

*Knock*

Hearing the knock, Carlisle closed the book and approached the door.

*Click*

Opening it, he found a familiar person standing there with a solemn look on his face.

"Brother," Carlisle called out.

"Tomorrow, you need to first go through some trials before you can get yourself a mission." He spoke, in his usual neutral voice.

Carlisle's brows went up...he thought being the heir of the family, he would get the advantage of skipping these formalities of trials and challenges.

'I guess the rule is absolute for everyone....'

"Alright, I will be there."

Carlisle's response surprised the older one, however, he didn't react to that and told him, "Report to the training ground, sharp at four." The first challenge for the young man was to wake up early morning.

If he fails to do that, then Victor will get a chance to 'fail' his brother in the test and tell him to continue his life as he was in the past

Perfect plan.

Although the expression on his face didn't change, Carlisle felt that his brother's eyes were smiling a little as he stepped back and walked away.

'Weird...' Carlisle closed the door and returned to the bed.

If they wanted to test him, then surely, he would do his best to prove his abilities.
