Chapter 7- The world

This world was...quite complicated.

There was magic, but still, the hierarchy was pretty much pre-determined that's why no one generally tries to defy their limits and try to change history.

"Magic core...life force." These two things were connected.

It was simple and unfair.

Imagine having an hourglass, with both sides filled—one with life force and one with your magic.

The magic skills you use, the spell you utilize to defy the laws of physics and bend reality, is decided by how much mana you possess.

The more life span one has, the greater magic power they have. That's why, among the four races, Dragons are the strongest.

And humans are the weakest since their life span is between eighty to hundred.

'There is no concept of going beyond your limits...' Carl muttered as he read the book.

If you end up emptying your mana, your life forces start to act as a substitute. You can recharge your mana with time, but your life span cannot be regenerated by any medicine or potion.

So once you finish using your magic, either stop when you have the time or die fighting.

'Haah...churches here in this world are in high demand as well....' There was a way to increase your life span in exchange for a handsome sum.

Church.

They have a way of increasing one's lifespan through some ancient ritual, allowing a few individuals to actually go beyond their limits since they know that until they have some cash to spare, they can buy some life for themselves.

'But this will not be enough for me...' Carlisle realized that if he wanted to bring some change in this story or live a peaceful life where he wouldn't be dragged into the chaos, then he had to find a different way.

The way he is right now, his magic won't be enough for him to defeat a single high-ranking demon who has immense magic to spare.

'Talking about magic...' Carl rested the book on the other side and closed his eyes.

He has been feeling this ticklish sensation in his belly for some time now but has given priority to gathering information.

Folding his legs, he assumed the lotus position before going into a meditative state.

He has the memories of the previous owner, so he knows the sensation and the process of dwelling in his body and assessing what lies inside.

A dark void—a blanket of darkness enveloped his vision as Carl found himself facing the vessel that was the core of one's life.

As a Ravenshade, he has a slightly higher magic count than a normal person; however, not too much.

Unlike the protagonist of the world, who has two cores—one of human's and one of dragon's—Carl is completely normal in comparison.

That's why, if he wanted to attain a peaceful life, treading a normal path won't do.

Opening his eyes, he found a small elf girl walking inside the room.

Long silvery blond hair that was braided in twin tails. Pale yellow eyes and wearing a white one-piece was the little girl who would become the heroine of the protagonist in the near future.

The incident yesterday would have changed her route and made her hate Carl since she would have believed that because of him, her parents died.

But well, things changed.

"Did you have a good rest?" Carl asked as he jumped from the chair and approached the girl.

The girl clutched her frock, with her gaze transfixed on the ground as she said, "Mm."

Hearing her slow mumble, Carlisle raised his brows, "Are you uncomfortable? Don't feel like talking?"

The girl panicked as she instantly raised her eyes and shook her head, "It...isn't like that! I-I am just surprised."

Carlisle asked in his natural tone, "Surprised by what I did for your parents?" He can only think of that.

The little girl nodded, "Mm....I never thought that young master Carl would care about my family. That's why I am surprised."

Her impression of Carlisle was of a spoiled brat who never got taught the meaning of respecting others and what his boundaries should be.

Treating the servants like they are nothing but pests. Dirt beneath his feet. Using his power to show dominance and love when someone flatters him. Truly a spoiled young master of an influential family.

That's why, Shelly was surprised to hear from her parents about what he did for her and them.

"Hmm, it seems you had a very bad impression of me." Carl crossed his arms on his chest, making Shelly nervous that she had offended him.

Her eyes again drew to the ground as she waited for him to continue.

After thinking for a bit, Carlisle asked, "So are you really thankful?"

Shelly raised her head, and despite being surprised she nodded, "I cannot express."

Carlisle hummed as he moved around the girl and asked her, "You are an elf, so what's your core rank?"

Shelly had no idea why the conversation took such an unexpected turn, but she didn't make him wait for the answer,

"Radiant-core...umm...is something the matter?"

Carlisle was impressed—radiant-core means her life span was between three to five hundred years, and that was impressive.

That means her magic must be great too.

After a brief pause, Carlisle began, "There is something I want you to do for me."

Shelly's eyes solidified as she firmly spoke, "I will do anything you wish, young master." In exchange for what he had done for them, she was ready to take any challenge.

Carlisle paused before her and asked, "The Lost Forest...have you heard the name?"

Shelly's eyes widened upon hearing that name.

Carl continued, ignoring her astonishment, "Only an elf could enter that forest and find the prized treasure of the ancient warrior and the Godfather of every Elf."

With his eyes narrowing, Carl asked, "Do you know what is it?"

With a grim expression, the other one responded, "The book of Spiritual Arts. Young master, do you want me to bring it for you?"

Carlisle hummed, "If you could then I surely would have sent you. But as of now, you would be nothing but a breakfast of the monsters lurking in there."

Shelly was surprised and curious how Carlisle, who definitely wasn't an elf and didn't have any relatives who were close to the noble elven families, knew so much about the Lost Forest.

However, she didn't ask anything and waited for him to continue,

"Okay, I am assigning a few teachers for you. Learn and grow so you can make yourself useful." Carlisle made the decision.

Maybe Carlisle has found himself a way to survive in this world.

The spiritual way.
