Liu Zhenhan deeply regretted using the despicable Fergurson Xu as a hostage.

By discarding the old schemer, he'd lost his only alibi.

Ning Yu's face resembled frost-laden jade, her pearlescent shells quivering like trembling crystal wings. Beside her, Aviere huddled in borrowed white robes, sea-blue eyes swollen into luminous orbs that made Liu's breath catch.

"You... you vile beast!" The mermaid princess trembled, golden lashes glistening with unshed tears. All venom had drained from her voice, leaving only broken waves of accusation.

"Believe what you will," Liu spread his hands helplessly, "But Xu brewed that poison. What was I to do?" His usual bravado faltered under their shattered gazes.

"Lies!" Ning Yu's whisper cut sharper than coral shards. "A master alchemist would never defile his own kin!" Her tears fell silently, each droplet crystallizing into milky pearls upon hitting the deck - tragic proof of her mermaid heritage.

"You think I wanted this?" Liu's throat tightened unexpectedly. For once, the silver-tongued rogue found no clever retorts.

Aviere launched herself at him, fists flailing. Still unaccustomed to human legs, she stumbled into his chest. "Rot in the abyss! May kraken devour your—"

Liu caught her effortlessly, her floral-sea scent clashing with salt-stained cheeks. "I'm no saint," he murmured into her hair, "But neither am I the architect of this disaster."

The mermaid's tears pattered against floorboards, each plink echoing like accusatory hailstones. Ning Yu watched coldly. "Mermaid's lament becomes pearls," she recited an old seafarers' adage, her own tear-stained face rivaling moonlight. "How poetic our suffering."

Liu's calloused thumb brushed Aviere's cheek, smearing iridescent teardrops. "I've sent Xu to the sea prince's dungeon. Isn't that justice?"

"Justice?" Ning Yu's laugh held Arctic winds. She gestured at the blood-jade ring gleaming on Liu's thumb. "You bartered him for trinkets like common fishmonger!"

The cabin door creaked. Hailun's fiery tresses cascaded over Liu's shoulders as she embraced him from behind. "My ears heard every word," the fox priestess murmured. "Your soul's song woke me."

Aviere recoiled from their intimacy, fresh tears welling. "How can you—"

"Because I know his heart's currents." Hailun turned Liu's face towards her, crimson eyes reflecting shared memories. "The boy who fought for brothers-in-arms... The man who shelters orphans... That's my Li Cha."

Liu's throat worked soundlessly. For the first time since washing ashore, tears of his own fell - not crocodile droplets, but the crystalline grief of a soldier who'd buried too many comrades.

As Hailun recounted their island struggles - makeshift shelters built from driftwood, nights spent deciphering ancient hymns, shared laughter over burnt fish - the cabin's icy atmosphere thawed. Even Aviere's furious pout softened when hearing how Liu had risked shark-infested waters to rescue a drowning fox cub.

Ning Yu's shell-clad fingers hesitantly brushed Liu's scarred knuckles. "You... you truly didn't know about Xu's scheme?"

Before Liu could answer, Hailun pressed a fiery kiss to his temple. "Our river otter here couldn't plot a fishing trip, let alone grand betrayal."

A reluctant smile tugged Aviere's lips. "More like blundering walrus."

The tension shattered like breaking waves. Liu's booming laugh shook salt crust from the rafters. Outside, the storm's fury eased as dawn's first rays pierced roiling clouds - nature itself acknowledging fragile truce forged in the eye of hurricane.
