Chapter 9

Lavender stared at Dashiell's retreating back and wiped away her tears.

She spoke softly, "Aunt, I'm tired."

"Then I'll have the driver take you home."

Lavender nodded obediently.

On the ride back, her phone rang loudly. She glanced at the number with no saved name and frowned in annoyance, putting the phone on silent.

"Miss Frost, we've arrived."

Lavender snapped back to reality and got out of the car, politely thanking the driver before turning to walk towards her apartment.

As soon as the car left, a dark figure emerged from the nearby shrubbery.

"Miss Frost, what's the deal with not answering your phone?"

"Our transaction is over. Don't come looking for me anymore."

"No, no, no. A million bucks isn't enough to buy my brother's future. Besides, I risked jail time to help you act. You've made it into the Winters Estate, living the high life. Don't you think you should show some appreciation?"

Lavender frowned in disgust, "How much do you want?"
