"Dashiell, an apology that rolls off the tongue so easily isn't something either Melody or I need."

With those words, I didn't spare Dashiell another glance as I slammed the door shut.

I don't know when Dashiell left, only that when I opened the door the next day, there was no one outside.

At that moment, the hospital back home contacted us, saying they had found a suitable match.

My brother, upon receiving this call, was so overjoyed he nearly burst into tears.

"Good, good, good, Lavender. Let's head back home right away. I'll have the doctors there arrange the surgery as soon as possible."

"It's perfect timing. I've pretty much compiled all the evidence I need. Let's deal with all these vexing matters and look forward to better days ahead."

After returning home, my brother quickly arranged for Melody and me to have surgery at the hospital.
