When I opened my eyes again, I found myself in the hospital.
Perhaps I stirred too much as I woke, disturbing Nolan who was sitting by my bedside.
As soon as he saw me awake, a hint of awkwardness flashed across the man's face.
He took my hand, anxiously trying to explain, "Sloane, please don't be angry with Serenity."
"I've spoiled her since she was little, and it's made her proud and willful."
"I've already lectured her about it."
Hearing his excuses, I frowned slightly and gently withdrew my hand.
"It's fine."
Nolan was taken aback, at a loss for words.
He seemed surprised by my nonchalance.
Indeed, if this had happened before,
I would have demanded Nolan provide me with a reasonable solution.
From the corner of my eye, I noticed a bouquet of roses on the table.
Nolan caught my glance, and the corners of his lips curved into a subtle smile.
He seemed certain that I would like the roses.
But the truth is, I've always preferred bellflowers.
