Chapter 6

"You know. I never lie."

I spoke each word slowly, as if each one was a needle piercing Nolan's heart.

The man swayed, nearly falling to the ground.

Serenity walked over at that moment, her eyes red-rimmed, and supported Nolan. She then turned to criticize me, "Sister, this is where you're wrong."

"Do you really need to bring up old issues and hurt Nolan's heart again?"

I almost laughed.

So, am I supposed to bear all this pain by myself?

How many nights, when I was in agony, did Nolan use the excuse of her being "just a sister" to be ambiguous with Serenity?

When you truly love someone with all your heart, you'll indeed give everything for them.

But only if they're worth it.

Seeing my nonchalant attitude, Serenity opened her mouth to say something more.

However, Nolan shook off her hand and fell to his knees in front of me, regardless of everything else.

"Sloane, I'm sorry..."

"I didn't know you suffered so much."
