CHAPTER 28 : The Past Is Never Dead

Their fragile reunion is shattered when a familiar face emerges from the darkness. A slow clap echoes through the alley, and Eve's body goes rigid.

Alexander's entire demeanor changes. The softness in his eyes vanishes, replaced by something lethal. He turns, positioning Eve behind him instinctively.

A tall man steps forward, his silhouette cutting through the shadows. "Well, well. Look who crawled back from the dead." His voice is smooth, too smooth.

Eve's pulse spikes. The way Alexander tenses tells her everything she needs to know—this isn't just another enemy. This is someone worse.

"Did you really think killing Carver was the end?" The man tilts his head, smiling like a wolf about to feast. "That was just the prologue."

Alexander doesn't react—not outwardly. But Eve knows him. She sees the slight shift in his stance, the way his fingers flex.

He doesn't say anything for a long moment, then—

"Then let's start the real story."
