CHAPTER 29 : Blood in the Water

The underground arena is filled with bloodlust, with gamblers shouting, fists slamming against metal cages. Alexander wraps his hands, his muscles coiled tight.

Eve stands near the edge of the crowd, watching. Her stomach twists at the sight of him back in this world, back in the violence.

He doesn't look at her. He can't afford to.

But she knows him well enough to see it—the way his hands tremble slightly before tightening into fists. The way his breathing changes when the fight begins. This isn't just survival anymore. This is war.

Blood spills. His opponent is ruthless, but Alexander is worse. He fights like a man with nothing to lose.

Eve watches, fear and love tangled in her throat. "I don't want to watch you bleed for them."

After the fight, Alexander finds her in the back corridor, sweat and blood dripping down his face. He cups her face in his hands, pressing his forehead against hers.

"Then don't watch, angel," he whispers, brushing his lips against her knuckles. "Just promise you'll be there when I come back."
