Chapter 8: The Walk

As they walked through the gardens, Emma couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder and excitement. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the flowers were in bloom. It was a beautiful day, and Emma was grateful to be spending it with Ruby.

As they strolled along the winding paths, Ruby told Emma about his childhood, about the games he used to play in the gardens, and about the adventures he had with his siblings. Emma listened, entranced, feeling like she was getting a glimpse into a whole new world.

As they walked, Emma couldn't help but notice the way Ruby smiled, the way his eyes crinkled at the corners, and the way his hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck. She felt a flutter in her chest, and she couldn't help but wonder if she was falling for him.

But as they turned a corner, Emma's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of laughter. A group of children were playing tag on the lawn, their shouts and giggles filling the air. Ruby smiled and nodded towards the children.

"Want to join in?" he asked Emma.

Emma hesitated for a moment, feeling a little self-conscious. But then she shrugged and smiled. "Why not?" she said.

Together, Emma and Ruby joined in the game of tag, laughing and shouting as they chased each other around the lawn. Emma felt a sense of freedom and joy that she hadn't felt in a long time, and she couldn't help but feel grateful to Ruby for showing her this side of himself.

As they finally collapsed on the grass, exhausted and giggling, Ruby turned to Emma and smiled. "Thanks for playing along," he said. "I had a great time."

Emma smiled back at him, feeling a sense of connection and camaraderie. "I had a great time too," she said.

As they sat there on the grass, Emma couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder and excitement. What was happening between her and Ruby? And where would it lead?

Only time would tell, but for now, Emma was content to simply enjoy the feeling of connection and possibility that was growing between her and Ruby.

As they sat there, Ruby suddenly turned to Emma and asked, "Want to see something special?"

Emma nodded, curious. "What is it?" she asked.

Ruby smiled and stood up, holding out his hand to Emma. "Come and see," he said.

Emma took his hand, feeling a spark of electricity as their palms touched. And as they walked off together, Emma couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead.
