Chapter 20

I woke up to the sunlight streaming through the window. I was about to get up when I felt a heavy arm wrapped around me. I swallowed hard when I saw Christian beside me. As much as I wanted to move, I didn't want to wake him, especially since he was sleeping so deeply now. Unlike last night, when he seemed to be carrying a heavy burden. I didn't want to disturb his sleep, so I just gazed at his face.

His nose was sharp, and his eyelashes were thick. His face looked so peaceful now, and it was mesmerizing to look at.

I found myself captivated by his face, and he looked even more handsome when he was asleep. But of course, he's even more handsome when he's awake, especially with the captivating color of his eyes. Speaking of those eyes! Why were his ash-gray eyes staring at me? They were truly beautiful to look at, and I couldn't even blink while staring into them.

I was caught off guard when I realized he was already awake. He caught me staring at him. I didn't know what to do because I was embarrassed.

"You're already awake, Mister? Can you please get up? I need to solo the bed, hurry!" I said to him.

Even though the truth is I was nervous and felt my face turning red.

He followed my order and got up. I looked at his appearance, and it was obvious he had just woken up, with messy hair and all. Why is it that even when he's just waking up, he's still so attractive to look at? He glanced at me briefly before leaving my room. His gaze was cold, as if I had done something wrong. Did I? Probably not. I should be the one who's angry - I cooked a lot of food last night and waited for him, only for him to come home drunk.

I feel like I'm married to a drunkard! Ha?!!! My thoughts are really annoying me, what's wrong with me?!

I sat down beside my bed to fix the rumpled bed sheet. But before I did, I lay back down and grabbed a pillow, hugging it. I paused when I smelled the pillow - it smelled like Christian. Even the bed sheet he lay on smelled like him too. Was his cologne that strong? It clung to my pillow and bed sheet. I couldn't help but inhale the scent. His cologne smelled so good, I wondered what brand it was.

I checked the time and saw that it was almost 8 am, so I went downstairs. The food was already prepared, including the dishes I cooked last night that were reheated. I thought they would throw away the food I cooked last night. Good thing they didn't, because I want to eat all that. It would be a waste if it's not eaten.

I waited for Christian to come downstairs for a few minutes so we could eat together. Wasn't he going to eat?

"Anya, let's eat together," Glaiza said with a smile before sitting down.

"Isn't Christian going to join us?" She stopped scooping rice onto her plate.

"Sir? He left right after he came downstairs. But before he left, he tasted the food you cooked last night. He was probably in a hurry, so he only ate a little." I slowly nodded at Glaiza. This was my chance now that he was gone.

Last night, when he was completely drunk, I managed to unlock his phone using his fingerprint. But it seemed like almost all of his phone's applications had passcode. Did he have that many trust issues? The only thing I could access was his text messages. The only conversations there were ours and one with an unknown number, which had coded messages.

I took a picture of it using my phone. But maybe those coded messages were just spam texts. Someone had sent me a coded text with a link before too.

At the Carter Family Mansion

"Why are you crying, Natasha?" Sapphire asked.

Sapphire had just arrived, having been out of town since what happened to Anya. Her friend Natasha had been complaining to her since last night, wanting her to come home to comfort her.

That's why, as soon as Sapphire arrived, Natasha was already waiting for her at their house.

"Oliver is mad at me. What am I going to do, Sapphire?" Natasha sobbed, burying her face in her hands as if the world had come crashing down on her.

Sapphire felt a pang of annoyance because of her friend's situation. If Natasha weren't her best friend, Sapphire would have said some hurtful words by now.

"What happened?" Sapphire asked, sitting down beside her friend and hugging her.

"He visited me last night at my condo. He threatened me that if we hurt Anya again, he'll do something we won't like." Sapphire's expression turned serious. This was the first time Oliver had reacted like that.

"If I were you, I'd just forget about him. There are plenty of other handsome, rich guys out there, not like him who's just a nobody in our family." "

No, I don't want anybody except for him. I really feel like that girl Anya did something, that's why Oliver defended her. Maybe she really flirted with him to get him to follow her."

Sapphire let out a deep sigh. "I'm not going to help you with that. I don't want to get into trouble again and get caught by Mom for my trouble making. You know what happened to me before, right?" Natasha nodded slowly.

"Stop crying already. Will your tears change anything?" Sapphire felt annoyed.

"If I were you, I'd look for dirt or information that could ruin Anya. Proof that she's a gold digger or whatever. Like, when everyone finds out, even Daddy will kick her out and call off the wedding." Sapphire suggested to her friend Natasha.

Natasha pondered Sapphire's words, as if a plan had formed in her mind. She wiped away her tears and smiled at Sapphire.

"You're right, I'll hire a private investigator. If not, I'll create a scene that will ruin her. I don't care, as long as the wedding doesn't happen." Natasha laughed to herself, thinking of scenarios that could ruin Anya. She wouldn't let that nobody beat her.
