Chapter 21

I'm searching for the handkerchief that Tantan lent me, but no matter where I look, I just can't find it. My head is aching from thinking about where I last placed it. This is the first time I've forgotten where I put something. What if I lost it? That can't be.

The last thing I remember is bringing it with me when I went to the resort. Maybe I left it in the car or dropped it.

I face palm, unsure where to start looking. I fixed myself up to leave. I need to go to the Moon Star Resort, that's where I last held my handkerchief. What if it's already been thrown away? Please no.

I was already in the parking area when I remembered that I didn't have my own car. Plus, we have our own driver here. I immediately called Austine. It's a good thing I already had his number in my contact list.

"Where are we headed, Ma'am?" Austine asked as soon as he arrived.

"At the Moon Star Resort."

Our ride is being silent.

When we arrived, a security guard greeted me. He seemed to recognize Austine, so we were able to enter the resort quickly. It looks like they've tightened security here.

"Can I ask to review the CCTV footage, Austine?" I asked as we walked towards the resort's entrance.

"That's possible, Ma'am. Ma'am Demi is inside, and I'm sure she'll allow it," Austine replied.

I became curious about Demi's role in Christian's life. "What's Demi's position here?"

"She's the one managing the entire resort. But it's still owned by Sir. He's just too busy with other companies run by his family."

It seemed Christian had immense trust in Demi. The resort was massive, and its luxurious style hinted at a multimillion-peso investment. Each suite must have been luxurious, and the cost of staying here for one night was likely steep.

"How long have they known each other?" I asked, noticing Austine's smile.

The way he smiled made it seem like he was thinking of something else. "I just want to know, don't think of anything else," I defended myself.

"They've been friends for a long time, Ma'am Demi and Sir. Maybe they've been friends since high school," Austine replied.

I nodded slowly. "How long have you been a driver?"

"For a long time too, maybe almost eight years. At first, I was homeless and Sir Oliver helped me out. One of their drivers adopted me and took me in. Since I didn't have any other family, their driver became like a father to me. When my adopted father passed away, I became a driver for sir Oliver too."

I still couldn't believe that Christian was helpful. It seemed out of his nature. My thoughts were interrupted when I saw Demi. We were already in the resort's lobby. She immediately noticed us and approached us.

"Hi Anya, glad to see you again. Do you need something?" Her smile was genuinely sweet, and I couldn't detect any insincerity, so I smiled back.

"I just wanted to see the CCTV footage from yesterday. I lost something important, and my last memory of it was when I brought it here to the resort."

"Oh right, let's go." I couldn't believe how quickly Demi agreed with me. Viewing the CCTV footage is usually confidential, so it was surprising that she allowed me to see it right away. Maybe it's because I'm Oliver's fiancée?

We followed Demi to the security room where all the monitors were.

As we walked, Demi asked, "Is Oliver alright?" I was taken aback by her question. She must have noticed the change in my expression. "Never mind," she said. And I just ignored her questions too.

For me Christian seemed fine, except that he came home drunk last night. Then he suddenly disappeared early this morning. That guy didn't even have a hangover, he's unavailable.

We were now in front of the monitor, searching for the date and time of the incident. But it seemed like my world had crumbled because the CCTV didn't capture the spot where I was.

All we could see were Natasha and Sapphire. No wonder they were so clever - they didn't leave any evidence behind. We replayed the footage several times. "Stop!"

I looked at a woman holding a handkerchief, about to leave. She was one of the women who were there when Natasha and Sapphire were ganging me up. She used my handkerchief to wipe her wet arm. It was irritating!

"Who is that woman?" I asked.

"She's one of Natasha's household staff," Austine replied.

It seemed like I'd have a hard time getting my handkerchief back. I just hoped the maid hadn't thrown it away yet.

"Austine, can you help me get to Natasha's place? I need to talk to that woman." Austine seemed hesitant to grant my request. I knew what I was asking was a bit difficult. But that handkerchief was really important to me.

"Okay, ma'am," he replied hesitantly.

We were about to leave the security room. "Thanks for your help, Demi."

"No problem. I'll go ahead, I have something to attend to," Demi said before checking her wristwatch. I just nodded and smiled in response. Meanwhile, she started walking away from Austine and me.

"Austine, I can go alone to Natasha's place. Just give me the address," I said.

But Austine shook his head. "I'm not allowed you to do that, ma'am. Sir would scold me. I have to accompany you. I'm worried about what might happen. Natasha has a bad attitude, and she might not let you in."

"Don't worry, I can handle it," I said.

But Austine persisted. "Maybe it's better if we bring sir along, ma'am? So we can avoid any problems."

"No need, he's too busy. Let's not bother him," I said.

It's true that Christian is always busy, and I never know where he goes. I couldn't even talk to him, even if I didn't want to. But I needed to, especially since I wanted to get more information about him. But I hadn't gotten any leads, not even one. That guy was so hard to get in touch with.

I thought everything would be easy since I'm living in Oliver's own house. But it's still difficult, and I haven't found any leads.
