Chapter 7

Melody's face was pale as she cried in his arms, tears streaming down her cheeks like raindrops on pear blossoms. "Maybe big sis doesn't like that I stole her wedding. I'm already dying, I'm not worth you all doing this for me. Garrison, I don't regret saving you back then. If I had to do it all over again, I still would. Please just let me go and leave."

"I didn't want you to fight because of me. I just wanted to thank her for being so gracious. Who knew she'd try to speed up my death? She knew my kidneys were bad, yet she still stabbed me there..."

Her pitiful appearance was enough to soften anyone's heart, and Garrison was no exception.

He furrowed his brow and spoke sternly, "Evelina, I can't believe you've become like this. You need to explain yourself. How can you be a role model for kids in the future? How can I trust Jaxon in your care?"
