Chapter 1

To ensure optimal genetic health for our future offspring, my husband and I froze our embryos and sperm fifteen years ago.

However, to fulfill his pure love's wish, he took out the sperm without my consent and used it to impregnate his pure love.

Upon receiving news from the hospital, I immediately went to confront him.

He responded matter-of-factly, "Jade has a terminal illness and won't live past five years. This is her only wish."

"Seraphina, I merely lent some sperm. I never thought you'd be such a petty woman!"

Completely heartbroken, I decided to let go and allow them to be together.

After leaving the hospital, I sat alone on a park bench, reflecting on my marriage with Fletcher.

This year marks our 20th wedding anniversary. At 45, I'm considered a high-risk pregnancy.

Initially, he said we should focus on our careers first, to provide a better life for me and our future child. We froze embryos and sperm instead of rushing to have a baby. Now that we've achieved career success, we're ready for a child.

But he told me he wants to give his sperm to Jade, to fulfill her wish of becoming a mother.

Jade is Fletcher's first love, and his pure love.

Back then, Jade went abroad for her career, and they gradually lost touch.

When Jade returned, Fletcher became utterly devoted to her!

He came home reeking of alcohol, trying to appease me with a cake.

"Seraphina, look, I brought you your favorite chocolate cake."

"Don't overthink it. It's just donating sperm. I feel sorry for Jade. We can have kids later, but Jade doesn't have that option."

I couldn't be bothered to look up, and just got up and went to the bedroom.

We're both 45 now. Doesn't he understand the state of our bodies? Seeing my lack of response, Fletcher lost his temper.

"Seraphina, who are you putting on that sour face for? If Jade hadn't gone abroad back then, would I have married you?"

I shut the bedroom door, blocking out the argument.

Although Fletcher and I were separated by just a wall, an unbridgeable chasm had long since formed between us.

I don't like sweets; chocolate cake is Jade's favorite flavor.

He couldn't remember my preferences, but knew Jade's likes inside and out.

I suddenly felt utterly disheartened.

Who would want their husband to have a child with another woman?

I wiped the tears from the corner of my eye and opened my computer to start drafting the divorce agreement.

My eyes were moist, blurring my vision.

Fletcher was the boy I had a crush on since I was 18.

Back then, Jade was my desk mate. She clearly knew I liked Fletcher, but approached him under the guise of being a "wingwoman."

Senior year was intense with studies. Every day, I'd wake up early to bring two breakfasts - one for Fletcher and one for Jade.

To attend the same college as Fletcher, I gave up on top-tier schools and applied to the same one as him. Jade also got into the same school.

Fletcher's favorite singer was having a concert, so I worked part-time all summer to scalp tickets and give them to him.

The next day, I found out he went to the concert with Jade.

After graduation, I gave up studying abroad and used my family connections to get Fletcher into a Fortune 500 company.

A few days later, Jade also became a new intern at the company.

In my secret thoughts, Jade's shadow was always there.

I'll never forget the day Jade urged me to confess my feelings.

She said she tricked Fletcher into going to the field after the graduation ceremony, telling me to prepare in advance.

My heart raced all day as I clutched my love letter, looking around anxiously on the field.
