After a romantic dinner, it was time for baby-making.
Now I understood clearly that Melody was covering up the fact she was pregnant with Alec's child.
I knew it was time to lay all the cards on the table.
I had promised Melody I'd come home early.
For tonight, Melody had gone to some trouble - and I use "trouble" sarcastically here. She'd simply taken takeout from a fancy restaurant and plated it, with a bit of decoration. Still, it was better than usual - normally she wouldn't even bother to plate it.
I smiled and said, "What a feast!"
Melody gave me a sweet smile and said, "To build up your strength. Here, have some soup first."
I was a bit afraid to eat the food Melody was bringing to my lips, so I just pretended to sip it.
Melody's mind wasn't on this meal at all, so she didn't even notice that I hadn't really drunk any.
"Honey, there's something difficult I need to tell you. Did you know my company's having some issues?"
I shook my head and said, "After handing over management, I stopped paying attention."
Melody pouted and said, "Don't you love me anymore, honey? I know you're avoiding conflicts of interest, but even if you can't openly get involved, you could still give me some advice behind the scenes, couldn't you?"
I can't see you looking at Melody's face. How dare she pout like that, asking me to privately investigate and smoothly hand over to Alec a golden goose that keeps laying golden eggs?
"Even if Isaiah's management of the company encounters some troubles, it's good. He needs to have the ability to solve problems. This isn't something you can learn just by talking about it, it comes from experience."
Melody uttered an "Oh" and didn't press the issue further. This wasn't her main focus for tonight. She brought over a bowl of medicine and said, "Honey, this is a new medicine I got. It's especially, especially effective. Drink it quickly, I want to."
I had a feeling that I’m the fool sipping arsenic from her wedding band.
I took the bowl of medicine from Melody's hands, then set it down under her expectant gaze.
Melody's eyes, which were originally filled with desire, suddenly gained a hint of malice. "Dane, what do you mean?"
I said, "I still have work to do. Let's forget about it tonight."
Melody got angry, "Who am I doing this for? It's all for you."
I smiled faintly, "I'm not in the mood."
Melody bit her lip and questioned me, "Is it because my brother is coming back to the company that you're upset?"
I didn't deny it.
Melody said through gritted teeth, "Dane, let's get divorced!" This life is truly dull and meaningless."
I nodded in agreement. "If you want to leave, then leave."
