Chapter six
Deborah POV
I was heading out of school when I caught martins walking into the class. I followed him reasons unknown and found him alone
Deborah:aren't you going home?(I asked curiously)
Martins: ( he spared me a disgusted look and turned back to what he was doing)
Deborah:(I walked closer and realized he was drawing) this seems nice what are you drawing?(I asked further)
Martins:what happened to not talking to each other?
Deborah:we'll I changed my mind. Let be friends (I smiled)
Martins:(chuckled)like it so easy(he packed his drawing books and made to leave)
Deborah:wait,where are you going to?
Martins:let me be okay .I am a drug addict and you wouldn't want to be seen with me . That alone is enough to ruin your reputation remeber?
Deborahs:(I exhaled) look that why I'm here . I am really sorry I said those things( I said genuinely)
Martins:(he stared at me for a few seconds and shook his head)it doesn't change a thing( he walked out).
I got home and went straight to my sister room where I spent most of the day chitchatting. Afterwards I went to my room and read my notes. I was getting ready to call it a day after dinner when my phone began to vibrate . I groaned too tired to pick the call. I stood up from the bed and walked to my reading table and picked up the phone and was shocked to find out that it was Kenneth calling. I was still trying to get it registered in my head when he called again and I quickly picked the call
Debora:hi. I'm sorry I didn't realize you were the one calling before
Kenneth:( chuckles) it no big deal.
Deborah: ( I smiled ) have you had dinner?
Kenneth: I'm not hungry
Deborah: why not you are going to be sick by morning if you don't take something
Kenneth: I will try I promise
Deborah: okay...….. uhm( I chuckled) so?
Kenneth: so .....tell me about yourself
Deborah: I am sixteen, love chocolates, I don't have a favorite meal and I love musics
Kenneth: you are a lot of fun…..I'm just boring
Deborah: no you are not, you play football, you are headboy, you are the coolest boy in school…. What more could you want?
Kenneth:(laughs) it disappointing you know?
Deborah: what?( I asked anxiously)
Kenneth: ( sighs) you now so much about me and I know so little about you
Deborah: oh. Well anything you want to know about me I am willing to answer them?
Kenneth: can I come see you?
Deborah:^ he his kidding right^ ( I thought) uhm.... My p....
Kenneth: it fine …. We will talk in school. I understand if you might overprotective parents
Deborah:( I sighed) just for now. I promise
Kenneth: okay . I have to go I have a call coming through
Deborah: is it Charlotte?( I asked without thinking)
Kenneth: are you jealous?( he little hint of amusement in his voice)
Deborah: can't I be( I asked seeming to be brave)
Kenneth:( he laughs) you are a lot of fun. I will talk to you tomorrow ( he cut the call)
*Next day*
The bell had yet been rung for break and we were about to leave the class when the government teacher stopped us
Teacher: before you leave . You guys are going to be having a practical assignment whereby I will be matching you guys up in pairs . Your topics will be pasted on the class group by the class rep…( he turned to shola the class rep) see me in my office after this announcement...….. anyway I will be grouping you now and you are to find time to work with your partners. It might also count as your first test( we all groaned) listen up to your names(he continued) Mariam and tunji..... Emmanuel and AYO...Dele and Favor ......….last but not the least Deborah and Martins. Have a nice day.( he walked out)
^ when we had gotten our snacks and we were now in our usual spot in the cafeteria ^
Deborah:why would he pair me up with martins( I lamented)
Ay: at least he his someone familiar... imagine dele( she laughed)^ dele is the class weirdo. Once he was caught putting a dead lizard in his bag^
Emmanuella: besides I thought you guys sorted things out
Deborah: ( I turned to look at martins who was sitting fee seats away ….. alone) argh he his even a loner
Ay: take things easy with the guy..... we all know you are the reasons you both don't talk in the first place
Deborah:( I rolled my eyes and pout)
Tayo: ( he walked over and sat beside Emmanuella) hey ladies..... Debby . Kenneth said to give this to you
(He handed me a small parcel)
Deborah:)( I collected it reluctantly) what this?( I asked with a smile . I opened it and found a butterfly bracelet in it) awnnnn it so beautiful ( I stole a glance at Kenneth who was sitting with shindara and Charlotte and smiled. I put it in my bag and was about to say something when I caught martins staring at me . We stared at each other for some seconds until he looked away. I turned back to my friends and continued to chitchat with them....
