Chapter 15: The Gate of the Forgotten

Kuragami stood at the edge of absolute darkness.

There was no land, no sky, no water—only the void. Floating within this abyss was a massive, ancient gate that pulsed with an eerie glow. Its surface was covered in ancient runes, shifting and changing as if alive.

Alexandra stepped forward and spoke in a grave tone.

"If you want to become stronger, if you want to save your mother, and if you truly wish to meet your father—then step through this gate."

Kuragami's golden eyes narrowed.

"What is this place?"

Seraphina, standing beside her father, answered.

"This is the Gate of the Forgotten. Thousands of gods and demons have entered in search of power, but only ten have ever returned."

Kuragami glanced at Alexandra.

"And you're one of them?"

Alexandra nodded.

"Yes. But even I barely survived. This gate does not simply grant power—it tests you, it breaks you, and only those who are truly worthy emerge alive."

Seraphina crossed her arms.

"Most who enter vanish without a trace. Their bodies, their souls, their very existence is erased. No one knows what happens inside."

Kuragami stepped closer to the gate, placing his hand on its surface. The moment he did, a cold wave of energy surged through him, as if the gate was reading his soul.

He tried to push it open.

But nothing happened.

"What the—?"

Alexandra sighed.

"It won't open for just anyone. It only opens for those it deems worthy."

Kuragami frowned.

"And what does it consider worthy?"

Alexandra's expression darkened.

"It must see that you have a purpose greater than yourself. A desire so powerful that even death will not stop you. Only then will the gate acknowledge you."

Seraphina smirked.

"If you're not strong enough, then just give up now, Prince."

Kuragami ignored her, closing his eyes.

"A desire greater than myself…"

His mind raced.

He thought of his mother, taken by Zeus.

He thought of his sister, who he had failed to protect in his past life.

He thought of the war between gods and demons, the suffering of countless innocents.

And then—

A burning rage ignited in his chest.

"I will not fail again."

His energy surged, the darkness of demons and the light of gods exploding around him. His golden eyes burned, and his black and white wings spread wide.

BOOM!

The gate shook.

A deep, ancient voice echoed from within.

"You… seek power. You… seek vengeance. You… seek salvation. But are you willing to face the truth of your existence?"

Kuragami clenched his fists.

"I don't care what I have to face. I will enter. No matter what it takes."

The gate rumbled. The runes shifted violently, and then—

With a deafening roar, the gate began to open.

A blinding light burst forth, swallowing Kuragami whole.

Seraphina's eyes widened.

"He… actually did it."

Alexandra smiled slightly.

"Now, let's see if he can survive."

As Kuragami disappeared into the unknown, the Gate of the Forgotten slammed shut behind him.

And his true trial began.
