I screened out their mockery and turned to leave.
But before I could take more than a few steps, Scarlett's voice came from behind me.
"Well, well. Weren't you just talking big a moment ago? Why are you suddenly running off now?"
I turned around and gave her a cold look.
"I have nothing to say to someone like you."
Hearing my words, Scarlett's expression immediately changed.
"You little bitch, what's that supposed to mean? You think you're better than me?"
I let out a cold laugh and fearlessly nodded.
"It's not that I think I'm better than you. I think I'm better than all of you."
As soon as those words left my mouth, all hell broke loose.
Although most of the people here today were company employees, there were quite a few high-level executives among them.
They all glared at me fiercely, their expressions suggesting they wanted to skin me alive right then and there.
Scarlett was so angry she rolled up her sleeves and rushed at me, ready to fight, but Alec held her back.
"Darling, calm down. Let's be the bigger person here. Getting your hands dirty with someone like her isn't worth it."
I thought he was saying this to protect me from getting hurt, but Alec's next words completely threw me for a loop.
"She can leave if she wants to. It's better than having her getting in the way here. My heart already belongs to you anyway."
Alec's words completely shattered my worldview.
Alec and I had met during a matchmaking session when we went back to our hometown for New Year's.
I believed that during our time together, I hadn't done a single thing to wrong him.
I even spent every bit of my only monthly day off on dates with him.
Apart from not being able to satisfy him materially for the time being, I could say I had been thorough in every other aspect.
However, at this moment, what little affection I had left for this man in my heart vanished completely.
"Alec, I won't say much else, I just want to tell you one thing."
Halfway through my sentence, I suddenly paused for a few seconds, my gaze gradually turning sharp.
"You'll regret breaking up with me, one hundred percent."
Out of consideration for our past love, I had originally wanted us to part on good terms, but someone simply don't appreciate my goodwill.
Like the man standing in front of me.
"Melody, why are you putting on an act again? Whoever regrets this is a dog, okay?"
"You didn't even take a piss and look in the mirror before leaving the house. What do you have that compares to Miss Stratton?" "With her employees watching, you have the audacity to claim I'll regret this? Keep dreaming."
Seeing he was about to continue, I quickly raised my hand to cut him off.
"Alright, that's quite enough out of you."
"Remember this - you brought all of this on yourself. Don't blame me."
With that, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and dialed my assistant.
"Hello, book me a business class ticket right away."
